Thankfully I wasn't let go but still one of the most toxic and tense atmospheres I've ever witnessed.
I know I should say Bravely Default as that game is majestically fantastically wonderfully brilliant.
But I'm gonna have to say

BTW, I vote we do a second round of drafting for games. There's so much depth in some of these categories that virtually every top pick was taken.
---
draft action-RPG The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I know most people don't think of WRPGs as "true" RPGs, but they qualify in my book.
Since likely everybody has played it, I'll just go into my rationale instead.
Why Skyrim? That's the most predictable response. Well, customization. Anybody who has read through my picks probably can see a strong tendency towards games with heavy customization. And Skyrim pretty much welcomes all of that in, pours it some coffee, and gives it the keys to the house.
Skyrim's modding community is HUGE. As in, the developers themselves release mods on it. It's open-ended, easy to use, and immensely flexible. The vanilla game is alright, albeit dull and a little easy. With mods in, it becomes and endless time sucking vortex. I have games with 50 hours and I just keep walking around Whiterun cave diving.
Mass Effect is sometimes called a quicksandbox game: one which lets you dive in, splash around, have fun, but drops you into a world you have a hard time conceiving the scope of. Skyrim is pretty much the alternative interpretation of quicksand: you'll never get out. You keep playing but there's so much more to do with the tools given.
Oh, and motherf***ing dragons. Beautiful dragons if you start plugging in mods.
The biggest sucker for this game though is its ability, like Red Dead Redemption, to generate stories from nothing. The randomness factor in events causes great unscripted stories to unfold as you adventure. Heck, this is half my fun when writing characters: what I feel their response is to these sorts of situations help solidify exactly how I imagine these characters.

Also can't want to see Kirant's pick.

Holy shit man, this is off topic, but where do you work? Also can't want to see Kirant's pick. |
It's right above you.

Skyrim's a respectable pick
I still have it thanks to Steam sale
can't say I've played it, which is mostly due to the fact that it's on PC and it's a lot harder for me to get into PC games lol
I don't see why a WRPG wouldn't be considered a true RPG though, haha

I was thinking that if we're all alive (aside from snow) we can draft a second set of each genre and reverse the order of something. For example with Platformers we have:
#1 - Naengmyun - Portal 2
#2 - bblues - Super Mario 64
#3 - Snow - Megaman Zero
#4 - iosac g the bestest hero ever - Crash Bandicoot 3
#5 - Kirant - LittleBigPlanet
#6 - SmashedFish - Super Mario Bros. 3
#7 - Oblivion Knight - Banjo Kazooie
#8 - Blazer - Rayman Legends
So we get a second round of drafting in along the lines of this for Platformers (and follow the pattern for every other genre):
#9 - Blazer
#10 - Oblivion Knight
#11 - SmashedFish
#12 - Kirant
#13 - iosac g the bestest hero ever
#14 - Snow
#15 - bblues
#16 - Naengmyun
That way we actually have to start being concerned about draft position. I mean aside from 2 cases (MLB Power Pros, 999), I can't think of any actual instance of draft position screwing anyone up. All these genres are vague enough anyways.

I got ninja bamboozled =c
Also in terms of having a second round of drafting, I'm pretty sure puzzle adventure's fully burned out of possibilities. Some of the other categories have endless options though.
(Also I'm last to pick for a shooter. lol)

as far as puzzle/adventure goes maybe expand it to include puzzle-only games if it doesn't already? (I forgot what bblues said the category was supposed to include but eh...)

I'd be happy for a second round of picks, I'll leave the decision up to bblues though!

Is puzzle/adventure really that big of an issue? I have a fair few I could pick.

I was originally going to pick Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
but instead I'm going to pick something I don't think anyone else here will pick:

What Titanfall lacks in a campaign or other decent 1-player mode it makes up with what it tries to do: multiplayer with gameplay mechanics that are fresh and entertaining. Unlike every entry of Call of Duty etc. it's actually fun and yet it's not swamped with so many different options and loadouts and other things that it's too complicated are hard to get into. It's a game that's simple on the surface, but deep when you get a little more into it.
I'm picking it because it's hard to make me enjoy a FPS but I actually enjoyed Titanfall a bit despite being bad at it. I also picked it because as I said, I don't think anyone else will be picking it (whereas Metroid will probably be picked quickly given how many of us play Nintendo games...) and I feel like with the splash it's made it's a decent enough game to be put on the list.
The game isn't perfect by any stretch of the means but it's at least good enough to make me not feel terrible about dropping $60 on it. A bit overpriced, given it's only got multiplayer? For sure. But the feeling of dropping down titans is highly satisfying and lastly, I think the fact that *I*, someone who typically trashes FPS and the Xbox console (mostly because of their lack of good exclusives IMO), am willing to rep this game, says a lot in itself, haha. (That being said I wouldn't suggest dropping $500+ for an Xbone and this game and then blaming me if you don't like it, lol--there's always the 360 version and the PC version, I guess, though the 360 version wasn't available at first/is probably slightly less good graphically and the PC version is... well, I'm not a PC gamer/don't enjoy playing games on my PC as much as I do consoles, so yeah.)

Borderlands 2
This is just a fantastic game. It's wacky and humorous, the characters are well done, there's a ton of replay value due to the various classes you can pick and the randomness of guns you receive, as well as the branching skill trees for each class. The co-op works well if you want to go that route, while the actual world is well designed.
I could probably go on, but...
