I'm currently watching through Joshiraku again. Just as silly as I remember it.
Kill la Kill is pretty silly, yeah. A good watch fo sho, though.
Gotta love Wadamote too.

I'm actually looking around for something new to watch, though I've yet to see anything that interests me yet.

If you train your already good sense of proportion and get a better sense of shading and coloring... ...you really have great odds of being the next great customer around this forums and even FEND, congrats. :3

Future Diary's main selling point for people is the yandere exemplar.

The everything else isn't too great, but it's fun if you can laugh at it(it's not really intended to be completely serious either a lot of the time), oh, and the opening is awesome. The plot itself does have creativity going for it, at least.

Huh. The reason I was suggested it was because I listed my favourite shows being Serial Experiments Lain and enjoying the weird shows like Ergo Proxy and Boogiepop Phantom. I'm guessing something about the foreshadowing in it.

QUOTE (Seraphinox @ Dec 22 2013, 04:29 AM)
Kirant lol

Steins Gate has 0 fanservice, well, as close to 0 as there can be.
It's a pretty serious show most of the time with some funny moments.

Look it up, it's about a crazy scientist and his rat tag band of assistants that live above a pawn shop. They realise that their microwave is a time machine and that they can alter the past... and then they uncover so much more...

Part of the issue, now that I've read stories about it, is that it probably flirts the line a bit. It has a derogatory nickname of Harem Gate when I was looking it up. Not "moe characters doing moe things" flirting with sexual themes, but I actually can't think of many shows with harem elements that I liked, Martian Successor Nadesico aside.

One of the huge problems I'm having right now is finding dissenting views. No show is perfect (I wouldn't even say my favourite shows or the best shows ever produced are), but every review I read is basically a circle jerk about the show. Nobody has the balls (or they're down voted to oblivion) to mention weaknesses...so I keep reading these with massive grains of salt.

I can tell you that the weakness of Steins;Gate I remember as being the worst is the sometimes ridiculous consequences based on the change after time travel(though the dumbest one was mostly irrelevant to the plot.) It's also highly implausible when you actually think about the stuff, but due to the situation looking "relateable" (it's a bunch of bored, not too competent-looking people messing around with easily available household wares that just HAPPEN to actually end up finding something that works) not many people really bother to question that, or maybe they find the lack of explanation in itself appealing because oooh, so mysterious. There's also some other revelations later on about the future which sound even crazier, not because of the consequences, but because of what the characters end up being.

And there's this the really fat horny otaku guy, which greatly decreased my enjoyment of the show, because of how often I had to avert my eyes from the screen, along with how you have to deal with his voice too often. (He's one of the main characters.)

As for the "harem", there is a transsexual crossdresser that is into the acts-like-a-mad-scientist main character, the main love interest, and another girl that's pretty much in the little sister role of said mad scientist.

That all said, it's an enjoyable show that's pretty consistent with itself. There's also potentially more weaknesses I just don't remember, I saw it like a year ago.

Having not watched the show, all I can really say here is that time travel is really, really hard to "get right". Few series ever do a great job of it; even if they manage to not make it totally awkward, it might not feel all that interesting regardless. I think Chrono Trigger is one of the few experiences (games, anime, TV shows, whatever) where I actually appreciated the implementation of time travel.

Tenebrae brings up a good point.

One of the characters is a pervert and there is atleast one "Say some innocuous innuendo again in a cuter voice please" joke every episode which gets very annoying. It's only for like, 4 seconds of the episode but it's still jarring.

The writing is good and the main character is great however. I'm gonna continue watching it, can't give a valid opinion since I'm only on episode 8.

Tutturu~

Got back on the Attack on Titan train. Watched episodes 10 - 17 yesterday. It's pretty damn good, the animation in parts is stunning. The scene where [Spoiler] beats the shit out of [Spoiler] in the courtroom was fantastic.

Agree with Attack on Titan XD

and it just does a good job of making everything so dramatic, from the very beginning of every episode with the crazy openings XD

The effort they've put in to make all of the Titans Fugly as all hell is fantastic as well.

Along with some of the cooler ones as well.

They've put the budget to the best possible use, making sure the money was flowing for the most important scenes.

I've seen too many shows start to tighten the strings on budgets towards the second halves of shows, and it can be really noticeable, nothing so far for AoT

Aye it's like once they capture you/get you into the show they're just hoping you'll finish it just out of a sense of duty to finish it/see it through or what have you >_>

Just don't play the 3DS game, the trailers make you THINK it's good but then you realize it's really quite silly after all like pretty much all anime games

Hmm, just finished Overlord at Work/Hataraku Maou-Sama/whatever, I still have Kill la Kill, Log Horizon, One Piece (which is in terrible filler mode), and Naruto going but they're all just once-a-week things... and Samurai Champloo though I should end up finishing that soon... I might pick up yet another show for those boring nights I don't feel like working or gaming haha

Saw the first episode of Nobunaga the Fool.

It's one of those crazy shows full of style that are likely to lack substance or accuracy.

Giant robots. (Reincarnated?)Historical figures. For some reason, Jeanne d'Arc is half-Japanese(or at least has a Japanese name.) Apparently Leonardo da Vinci serves King Arthur. Any seriousness? Doubt it. But it looks like it could be fun.

^I'm gonna start watching the first episodes of the new season of stuff over the next few days. That looked like one of the more ridiculous ones.

Seems like this seasons over the top nonsense.

Doubt it can top Valvrave though...

welp, reason enough to scratch Nobunaga Fool off potential watches lol.

For 2014 ongoing animes with varying amounts of action that aren't the huge ones like One Piece and Naruto

I suggest

Log Horizon
Buddy Complex
Kill La Kill

and if you liked SAO, there's a second season of that coming.

Code Geass: Akito the Exiled is also awesome, can't wait for the 3rd episode of the OVA or whatever. First one was eh but the 2nd one was awesooooooommmmeeee.

EDIT: I'm not too into science fiction, at least it's never really a selling point for me, would you still suggest Planetes or Robotics Notes? tbh I'm running out of high-quality anime to watch and it sucks haha, I'm also lowering my standards for anime as a result lol, I feel like it's so hard to get a grasp for all the various shows and which are good and not and it's just like "ugh" because I don't want to miss out on a show that might be good just because the cover is bad, the name is super long and in Japanese, it's stylized weird, it's super old, or something else, when it could actually be really good. >_< /rant

It is difficult to figure out what is good and what isn't these days. But it's absolutely impossible to do so by judging 'a book by it's cover' for lack of a better phrase.

That's why when a new season rolls around, I give every anime a 3 episode grace period. It has 3 episodes to impress me, be it in a 'oh wow this is fantastic, the music/characters/action/suspense/writing/humour is brilliant' or in a 'it's so ridiculous, it can't not be good way', or else it gets dropped. like, super dropped. bai bai.

I give them all a chance though, some stuff you think will be boring and cliched turns out to surprise you (Seitokai no Ichizon looked like a boring harem, turned out to be the best inverse-harem I ever watched) or something that you've been pretty hyped for can just deflate and bore you. (Darker Than Black Season 2, Nisemonogatari, Mirai Nikki, Valkyria Chronicles, Guilty Crown anybody?)

Most of the stuff does end up getting dropped and I usually only watch about 5~ ish shows a season, but you gotta try them.

Space Dandy just finished downloading, so off I go to see if Watanabe can make it 4 great shows in a row!

I've been reading/watching Naruto and One Piece for years upon years, that's the main reason I watch them. They're not really like, included as other anime series, they're huge series that have been airing for years and will continue to air for a while yet lol. They could be freaking terrible and I'd still watch them.

Then there's other anime that I venture off into based off suggestions or youtube videos or whatever... now for THAT I have certain standards before I try/get into them

@Seraph yeah I know that's what I'm saying, I CAN'T just say "nope" to animes based on those things because there's so much potential for them to be totally different than what I expect and surprise me (in a good OR a bad way), so I do what you do except I can usually tell if I'll like a show after 1 episode though if it's close I might give it a 2nd episode lol. Sometimes shows have things that instantly turn me away and it's usually that which stops me lol, thing is a part of me wishes I COULD easily tell which animes I should watch and not just from 30 seconds of googling or whatever, since I'd save so much time and I wouldn't be forced to watch episodes of shows I won't end up finishing and crap lol
