The force gun is better on the pack. One shot clears the room. But you don't get it til chapter 7/8. Its in the solar array just after you get off the elevator.

The javelin gun is hands down the most useful when its fully upgraded. Normally its alt fire just electrifies the bolt, which is good for dealing heavy damage to brutes, tripods, pukers, and any enhanced form necromorph. But if you fully upgrade the alt fire, it will EXPLODE after eletrocuting them. Even on zealot, nothing will survive that. The only problem is the accuracy issue. Trying to fire of such a narrow attack in a panic moment is hard but with practice it's easy.
