In all seriousness, I'll Skype him, but I dunno if that'll accomplish much.

I imagine everyone is going to go for realism, so I'm drafting MLB Power Pros

user posted image

What has always been the most fun part of sports games? I think the universal answer has been either cathartic experience (say your favourite team lost to their bitter rivals...go blast their electronic counterpart!) or being able to put yourself into the game itself.

Now most games give you that. But what most don't give you is a hilarious, unique art. EA and company go for realism. I like it. I regularly buy new NHL games and adjust the physics in them until it's just right (which often takes a full season to work out...so I spend easily 80 hours to make that happen). But the market isn't always limited to that.

The lighter end of games has MLB. The franchise began as "Live Powerful Pro Baseball" in Japan and has always kept one story in mind: legless chibi characters. You heard me right. Chibi athletes. It's friggin' adorable I should point out. They get frustrated. Their heads sometimes spin and have @_@ eyes. When they're mad, they have visible steam. And yet it all still follows the basic realism in baseball.

The game itself becomes immensely deep the more you play. You have Success Mode which is basically an RPG unto itself. You juggle your career, your scouting, your marks, and your reputation all in RPG form. You then play some games as yourself. With horribly deep stats you can immerse yourself in.

And like all good games, there is customization. It's quick, easy, and understandable...yet incredibly deep. This game has something many games don't: characteristics. You want a hot-headed pitcher? There's a trait. You want them to have ice water for blood? Yup.

Really, this comes down to doing something very few do: treat a sports game as a game first. I could have said Mario Strikers for this, but MLB Power Pros manages to do it while keeping astounding depth.

OH I got Ninja'd.

Uhhhhh.

NBA street V3 on the Gamecube.

Probably my favorite basketball game to date. Has an entertaining single player mode of sorts building a team with a custom made character etc. Dunk contest mode. Good fun.

Haha, no. 14 is dog in so many places. Career mode is arguably worse than ever, drop in pros is forever a bucket of twats, UT is that sort of sadistic 'why do I keep coming back to get angry at sweaty bastards' fun, with a good game thrown in every 1 in 10. Seasons is endless people picking the same teams and is basically a less jacked UT. There's been little to no improvement in defensive AI, physics, or just about anything in the last few releases. There's so much wrong with it, it's barely even realistic past the names and some of the faces. I'm not buying it next year, fuck it. I'm not buying PES either, that's even worse. Take me back to PES6 on the PS2, when you weren't given the false promise of good ball physics, sweat wasn't a thing, and it was fun. Oh yeah, and you could play in penguin suits.

That said, it is still pretty fun, and I might've picked it if it had fallen to me (I thought Seraph wouldn't take it).

Burnout Takedown - Really fun racing game, solid music, tracks, and super fun gameplay, Burnout series is one of my uh... more favored racing series (I like F-Zero and Mario Kart too but I wanted to throw out something a little less expected).

Racing is a sport so yeah

My other two options weren't racing games though:

NBA 2K3 - Played the GameCube version way back when
Wii Sports Resort - I actually like Wii Sports quite a bit, I found motion controls pretty fun. Not like "I play it every day!" fun or anything but I'm naturally competitive and I liked some of the sport options they had so yeah...

Guess I'll go with Wii Sports?

If you train your already good sense of proportion and get a better sense of shading and coloring... ...you really have great odds of being the next great customer around this forums and even FEND, congrats. :3
