Finally finished going over their copyedits of my manuscript. Sent it back last night. The next stage is interior design + cover art...then distribution. Gulp.

The art on the Dragon Age novels are pretty good. If you can, you should look up the dude responsible for those. Ramil Sunga.

Anything else costs me money, which I'm not made of. (Go go college.) And they may not even accept it..
Sunga's work looks pretty awesome. But if he did work for Bioware, I'd imagine his work doesn't come cheap.

The cover art is the area I'm most concerned with, to be honest. The company has a free service should I wish to use it, but I'm not sure how good they are. Anything else costs me money, which I'm not made of. (Go go college.) Sunga's work looks pretty awesome. But if he did work for Bioware, I'd imagine his work doesn't come cheap. |
Why not check to see if the company would be willing to hire the artist you desire? Or perhaps ask to see samples of their work and pick the one with a style you like.
Btw, who is your publisher?

Today I received:
1. Press release campaign that will be sent to 150+ newspapers and literary magazines once the book's released. I'm guessing this is for book reviews and all that. It's awesome and makes me sound like I'm some literary genius.
2. My interior design layout (meaning, the whole book in PDF format showing the exact amount of pages, what the chapter titles look like...etc)
3. ...The cover art.
I'm actually digging the cover art they made for me. It looks really Lord of the Rings-y (the font totally looks the same), but eh. I may ask for a couple changes here and there and try some new things, but I really do like what they did. It looks as if I hired a professional designer...but I didn't!
So I'm pretty overwhelmed right now (a good sort of overwhelmed) mostly because this happened ****ING FAST. I talked to their design team yesterday and they had a cover done up for me today. Crazy.
Now I just need to submit a new back cover and author bio plus my photo (my originals were too long) and...well...I don't know. I think then it'll be officially released and I can start marketing the thing.
Also, prices have finally been...finalized!
Softcover: $11.99 from amazon, barnes, etc.
Hardcover: $23.99 from amazon, barnes, etc
Direct from me: Whatever I decide. It'll probably be $10 and $20. But IDK yet. It'll be cheaper than the online retailers.
Holy crap.

Also, I can also speak for my own feeling here. The feeling that I have always been so close to a talented author really makes me proud of my time here. Gives me butterflies even to see that happening, to see talent being rewarded, and a pursuited dream comming nearer and nearer. You really deserve all that joy for your work, it is pretty good.

They say everyone should, in order to say they have lived an accomplished life at the instant they die, write a book, plant a three, and raise a child. You got the first one covered, congrats.

I know I am interested in buying the book.(Then again, lack of international credit card could pose as a hinder) But that is not a problem, after all I might end up watching the holiwoodian movie of it when it comes out.

It's perfectly fine if you don't want to/can't buy it. I'm not in this for the money (writing isn't my career). Your kind words are enough for me! (That goes for everyone who has supported me on this thread, too.)

And when do you think you'll have books to sell? Do you have a pretty good idea by now? |
This. I can't wait to buy my hardcover book as I need something good to read these days. Not to mention I'm more than happy to support an author who puts effort into his work and who I e-personally know.

@ Shu Thanks! Don't worry about picking it up. Support and kind posts are good enough for me

@Rujio & Felover Still a tough question. I need to get all this preliminary work done. I actually found a terrible typo when I looked at my interior layout so I'm having that fixed as well. I still need a picture of myself and to finish up my author bio and back cover (mine were too long). Once that's done, they print off one copy for me to do a final look-over (to ensure there were no printing errors on their part) and then I believe I'll have books to sell.
I'm going to be give it a month. It may be less, may be more. Still a little uncertain at this point. It's also happening at the wost time ever since I'm flooded with schoolwork right now.

So I got the edited versions of my cover art and whatever. I don't think I'll be making any further changes, so these will be the final versions. I just need to take get a photo of myself and fax over my approval thingy and I'll be...done.
After that, they send two copies (one paperback and one hardcover) to me so I can look them over and see if there were any printing errors. This process takes approximately 2-3 weeks.
Once I accept that as the final version (barring any additional fixes)my book will be available for sale.
