A large portion of the land on the map falls within the same boundaries as Magvel, that's simply because I'm far too lazy to try to mess with moving all the locations on the world map. However the map definitely isn't entirely the same.

user posted image
Just to point out the differences, I've placed my map of Velrosa with transparency over the map of Magvel.

If it was entirely the same, I probably would simply be lazy and not change the map at all since the map actually doesn't show any location names on it in game.

Yes, got that working, so now I can insert the map into my actual hack when ready.

Actual Edit: This turned out to be a double post because deleting posts doesn't work for me. If a moderator could merge these two posts, (or just delete them so I can re-post both these posts as a single post myself,) that would be appreciated. And my apologies for double posting.

Improved version of the map with texture added and improved color separation between the ocean and the land. This is likely going to be the version of the map seen in the next demo patch.

More graphics changes:

Finally added a custom stat sheet. Certainly goes with the menu and battle screen graphics better than the regular Fire Emblem 8 stat sheet graphics.

The custom stat sheet looks EPIC! Nice job! It seems you have some graphic skills, although that's just a little inference of mine. I could be wrong. XP

Great job with the custom world map too. It seems like it's really going well. If I may make a suggestion, you should document what you're finding out and stuff so if anyone ever needs to do the same thing, they can use your doc to get some help. I really like how you're going into somewhat "new territory" and doing things that people usually won't try and do. tongue.gif

Props to you Mage Girl. smile.gif

In order to upload my documentation, I'd have to translate all my notes into something that anyone other than me can understand and retype them on the computer, as I write all my notes on paper. XD (My notes are written vaguely to save paper space, but just enough information for me to know what to do if I go to do it again. XD)

But perhaps I'll throw something together to give back to the community some point when I get the chance.

Edit:

The small version of the world map is now inserted as well, with no glitched tiles in the top right corner! Since I didn't use Kate's patch. >.>

I thought Kate's patch was for FE7 anyway

That looks pretty good except the text is illegible. lol.

I never imagined someone writing down hacking notes. Idk, it just seems out of the question. But you did, and that's fine, I was just making a suggestion. No point in going out of your way to share some notes. XD

If she was really kind about it like i know Mage Girl is (<3), I'm sure she wouldn't mind typing up something for the up and coming FE8 hackers.

In any case, nice custom statsheet too. <3

My version format is only long for my in progress versions, as part of the number is based off the date, and each in progress version has a respective backup file; I also have a log of each version and what I've done between them so that if I screw up something and have to go back to one of the backups, I know exactly what I have to do again.

Any released versions such as demos and such will follow the format I used in the first demo (0.1.0) which is much shorter than the format I use in my in progress versions.

Wow, how smart.

I just go by however many significant changes I make. A bugfix or update or something is like .01, finishing a chapter is .1, and I decide everything else as I feel like it. Then I usually round up during major releases to make it look good (V2 sounds better than V1.94 IMO).

I should start taking more notes on what i do with my data because eventually I'm going to regret it...

Well anyway, sorry for derailing your topic, I'll fix it. sleep.gif

I decided to take the time to do some minor character re-balancing.

The majority of it won't be immediately noticeable, however one character has had a major change due to it:

I had the feeling that Didina was incredibly overpowered, so part of my re-balancing was reducing her base stats.

Balancing the difficulty of the game amongst many other things is very important in a game, and though less people care about such things in a hack, it really makes the hack and the overall gameplay experience much better.

Even if the changes are minor to each character, they can really add up and help improve the overall enjoyment and experience of a playthrough of a game.

I've spent time reading through this whole thread, and I must say I am flabbergasted with the amount of effort you've put into this Mage Girl. I'm sort of envious >_>

ASIDE from my petty jealousy, I can not wait to try this hack. I think I'll put it on my PSP and play it at school tomorrow. I do believe I'm really going to love it.

P.S. I adore the redesigned world map. I'll check out TSA later and find out how hard it really is. (famous last words, right?)

^It's very hard. Mage Girl is just pro. Excluding from SuperLuigi's hacks (which I've now lost track of) this is like one of my top 3 most anticipated hacks.

This, Devourer of World, and FE4 Advance [are my top 3 anticipated hacks], but this has the most chance of being finished. Super Luigi's hacks are cool but idk if he does them anymore. Most of the others have been given up, lack the sort of customization I like, or are just plain bad (your hack, Trent, is in the 2nd category, but it's still in the top 10 for having some actual effort put into it and getting past the 2nd chapter).

Update time!

A new system has been implemented:

user posted image

Inspired by Fire Emblem 4, I replaced affinity with "bloodline". (Blood for short, as shown on the stat screen.)

Along with new support bonuses for each bloodline, they also have their own skills. For instance:

user posted imageuser posted image
The Kersey Bloodline (Adeline and Ann) boosts the character's strength cap by 2, as you can probably notice from the side by side comparison of Adeline and Milena's stat sheets.

Some of the skills affect stat caps and such, some are terrain based, and some are familiar skills, such as "Silencer".

Not every character has a notable bloodline, and those who don't have a notable bloodline have the following icon:

user posted image

They still give support bonuses, however they don't have any special skills.

There are as of this post currently 14 bloodlines, double of the original total of affinities, and that doesn't count the "None" bloodline used for characters who don't have a notable bloodline. And likely there will be more added for some of the boss characters.

The question isn't "Why Yoshi?" but "Why not Yoshi?" XD

Jokes aside, I just like Yoshi, so I decided to utilize Yoshi heads at least somewhere in most of my new menu type graphics. XD
