Who I would most want to see, though, are Quote and/or Curly from Cave Story. Nintendo already has four Cave Story games available (DSi, 3DS, 3D Classics, and Wii), so I don't see why they wouldn't at least be an assist trophy at the very least. If they were added as playable characters, however, they could either add one or the other, they could have them both as two separate mirror characters (like Lucas and Ness), or they could have them together as an Ice Climbers type character, or strapped to each other like in the Hell level.

I'd like to see Kyle Hyde, if they could implement him in a style that say, Capcom used in MvC3 with Wright. Cing's bust, but I loved those two games.
I wouldn't be surprised if someone like Lucario got chucked.

Luigi- Staying
Princess Peach- Staying
Bowser- Staying
Donkey Kong- Staying
Diddy Kong - ??? Honestly Diddy hasn't really done anything spectacular recently to warrant being in Smash 4, although the same could be said for DK and Wario.
Yoshi - Staying
Wario- ??? How long has it been since a Warioware game? Forever? Yeah I thought so.
Link- Staying
Princess Zelda- Staying
Sheik - Staying
Ganondorf- Staying
Toon Link-??? I hope Toon Link gets axed. Both him and Young link were basically link clones with minor alterations not worth a character slot.
Samus Aran- Staying
Zero Suit Samus- Staying?
Pit- Pit might get axed. He doesn't have 3DS game to advertise anymore.
Rock Climbers- Despite not doing anything for years, probably still staying around because of the whole 2 characters gimick.
R.O.B.- Axed? lol
Kirby- Staying
Meta Knight- If gets in 4, he REALLY needs to be balanced accordingly otherwise he'll be absolute shit or be game breaking. I'd honestly rather have him gone.
King Dedede- Kirby's had a quite a few games since Brawl so I guess DDD's safe.
Pikmin & Olimar- Olimar might stick around because Nintendo and lol gimicks, oh and raise awareness for Pikmin 3, whenever the hell it comes into existance.
Fox McCloud- Staying
Falco Lombardi- Staying
Wolf O'Donnell- Hi, I'm Wolf. I was overkill in Brawl considering my series hasn't had a major hit game since the blasted NINTENDO 64. Falco will most likely get in Smash 4 simply because he's been high tier forever and he's been in since Melee.
Captain Falcon- Honestly, if I was in charge of Smash 4, Falcon would be gone. Like Fox, he hasn't had a major game since again the Nintendo 64. FZero GX on the gamecube was fun, although had a difficult as balls story mode for no reason. Since Brawl? No games at all. Okay thanks Nintendo.
Pikachu- Staying.
Pokémon Trainer- Probably gone, if he does stay, he'd probably mix up his pokemon list either going the nostalgia route with gold/silver or going the advertising route and supporting 6th gen pokemon.
Lucario- Lucario suffers from Mewtwo syndrome, only there to advertise pokemon games. Most likely going to be replaced by a pokemon of a similar body height/etc as Mewtwo was, this time with a 6th gen Pokemon.
Jigglypuff-Staying.
Marth- He's been already confirmed IIRC although I'd much rather it be "Marth" from Awakening, over sissy FE1 no pants Marth.
Ike- Ike's in the same boat as Lucario is in, just like Roy before him, he'll probably get swapped out for Chrom to advertise Awakening. Something I don't really mind happening.
Ness- Has had no games since the blasted NES/SNES yet will get in on since 64 Smash mentality alone.
Lucas- Nintendo has been prone to get rid of clone characters in the past, see Roy, Pichu, and Dr. Mario. Considering Ness and Lucas hasn't had a game in literally forever, he's probably gone and I hope he is too.
Mr. Game & Watch- Been in since Melee, helped found Nintendo. He's not going anywhere.
Solid Snake- I don't think Snake's really done anything since Brawl, but he's a fan favorite. It's probably going to come down to liscencing above all else.
Sonic The Hedgehog- Well since Brawl we've had... Sonic Colors and Generation? Well, seems like better games over say 06, Secret Rings, and Unleased. Again liscencing will probably play a large role.

As for everyone else...uh. I'm not too picky, really. I think the roster will be kinda similar but have the more "clone-y" characters swapped out for some new guys. Those of which I'm unsure, but hey.
Also, anyone think there will be special downloadable characters? Like through DLC? That might be neat if it wasn't like, expensive or anything.

Mewtwo (especially since this guy was announced) |
Hell yes.

Chrom |
Yeah, I would like to have him since I don't want to get Awakening.

Priam |
Haha, it's funny how he's mentioned in this thread since I've already put him in a fan-made personal roster.

Sora (and Riku) |
I hope so. Just Sora would be nice but the both of them would be awesome. I dunno if there would be enough place in the roster to include any of them though.

Yeah, he looks cool.

I would love playing her, since the roster lacks girls and Wolf is useless.

I admit I'd love a Tales character.

DLC needs to stop being a facking regular thing. It's milking a game's success in the worst way possible. |
That depends on its usage. DLC as originally envisioned was a great idea: that a company keep developing product past the market date for purchase. It is pretty win/win, since you get continued projects long past what the company could have reasonably developed in the original budget and the company gets additional income. For example, some of Fire Emblem Awakening's DLC, such as Future Past, was a great idea. I don't think it was originally in the scope of the game and arguably provides a better ending than the actual end of the game (well, at least better than the hollow "sacrifice yourself" ending).
Planned Day 1 DLC is about the laziest way of saying "we want extra cash" though. It's an indication that the company basically codes out some stuff they already developed and are holding it ransom for money. Same goes for games which use DLC that wrap up the story for you instead of integrating that into the original game. Really, my concept line is that if it's an extension or expansion type of DLC, then great. If it's ransoming you to get a full game, then out it goes. Going back to the Awakening example, it's not necessary to get DLC to get a full game feel, but it enhances the experience if you do.
And I would say that going with the former, but not charging money isn't a viable route. The company is still developing and costing it money.
Fair enough that it might not advance the series as much, but I tend towards series which have hard enough times getting sequels, so the concept of not having sequels doesn't scare me at all.

DLC is bullshit when they hold out on players and rely on it to print more money. |
Which qualifies as the latter and is given an example of day 1 DLC.

Why is "Awakening" being used as an example of doing it right? You have to download playable characters. That's as bullshit as it gets. |
Because 3 of those characters you download you kill. So they made it optional as to not completely screw with the bad plot of the game. Also they are free so I don't see it as a problem at all. I say they do it right because all their DLC is for extra challenges, fanservice, or to trivialize the game.

Spotpass add-ons are free. If my memory is correct, their release was designed as staged and isn't really DLC by the strictest definitions, since the company has nothing to gain (as they don't charge you), but seemingly used the Spotpass system as a guide as to slowly releasing extra maps. This also does not interfere with the game's story and simply act as a side note.
The rest of the DLC also adds nothing to the main component of the game and acts as challenges, a Skinner box, and fanservice of the written variety (I will admit that the whole "your favourite characters in cute outfits" doesn't do a whole lot to me).
