Yeah, I actually discovered that a couple years back but I didn't really understand your problem (note: I'm too lazy to use the brain power required to) or anything so it didn't really occur to me to mention it

In any case I'm glad you got it fixed

The Corruption of Roy updated to Version 1.3b

Changes include minor dialogue changes, lowering the durability of some weapons, adding a readme, and a guide.

A guide?! Wooh! I might actually be able to beat this without cheatingas much!

I can't say I'm happy about lower durability though XP

Fun fact: I only lowered the durability of one weapon since it had 60 durability, which was way too much.

What are you trying to prove by beating this submission legitimately? Are you just stubborn? Or does it take away all satisfaction when you get through it with help?

I'd been meaning to ask forever but I forgot sooo

What's the theme from the first part of the hack? It is too full of swag to not download.

The player phase theme of PwnageKirby's submission?

That's called "Septette of the Dead Princess"

It's from Touhou 6. Would you heard was a really crappy version of it.

No, the theme from yours. The first part of it anyway; haven't played in a week or so but IIRC the second half uses distinct player and enemy themes, both of which aren't what I'm looking for.

Ooooh, you mean my Ragefest 3 submission.

The song is called Sophia's Exhibition ~ Unveil the Mystery. It's an original song made by me.

If you want to use it in your own hack, here's the insertable midi. It requires MarioBro's native instrument map to work as intended.

The Corruption of Roy Version 1.3c is released. In it, one major change, and a few minor ones.

The major one being that two new songs have been inserted into the hack. One on the title screen, and one that replaces the player phase theme used in part 2.
The minor one being that all songs have been fixed and no longer pop.

I finished this thing last night! And damn, it was pretty hard. I didn't "abuse" save states but I did use them tongue.gif

Stuffs about the hack (Click Here To Hide/Show Text)

The first part was wicked rage-y and funny, with the fire chests and whatnot. (The game over chest was hilarious.)

I managed to snag all the loot except for the Bolting. (Although before I got to that part that damn thief got the game-over chest and I had to start over >.>)

Ruban was also hilariously scary. When his face took up the screen I was like WHAT THE **** IS GOING ON. After a couple tries I figured out he could 1-hit himself with the devil axe, so I made him suicide and got that sweet Faithkiller tome. Too bad it was a bit useless save for the critical percent, as there is only one light magic user (albeit an annoying one) in the whole hack.

Part two was more of a difficult Fire Emblem game than "rage-y", imo. From what I experienced, you just had to prepare yourself for tough as balls reinforcements that were actually manageable if you used the right characters/weapons.

That berserk guy was definitely an asshole though, especially before you get the restore staff from that chest.

Oh and I enjoyed "roses are red, violets are blue, you are very dead" chest and that "alternate game over" from that one troll chest too. Those were quite funny.

The only disappointment I had was how easy Roy was to kill. He leaves his throne so no bonus there, and his sword is 1 range so he's easily killed by your mages. Sophia OHKO'd him with Luna. Maybe having Luna obtainable is a bit OP?

Overall I enjoyed it a lot. It was wicked hard.

ps CLARINE AND CATH ARE THE WORST UNITS EVER. THEY GOT ONE SHOTTED SO MANY DAMN TIMES.

Nicely done. I've been trying to beat the hack without save states entirely, but it has been going terribly.

Replying to your stuff about the hack (Click Here To Hide/Show Text)

If you train Lilina up like a mother****er, she can use that bolting, giving you five free pot shots at Roy and anyone else.

QUOTE (Bobryk @ Jun 24 2012, 08:44 PM)

YES! When I finally successfully added that CG into the hack, my reaction was the same. It was ****ing AWESOME.

Also, believe it or not, you can kill Ruban before he transforms, and you'll still get the faithkiller as a result. He even has a different death dialogue if you kill him before he transforms.

QUOTE (Bobryk @ Jun 24 2012, 08:44 PM)

I wanted my Ragefest submission to be the hardest the contest has ever had, so I decided that part 1 would be about bullshit memorization, and part 2 would be about genuine challenge.

Part 2 was designed to be so difficult that you would need to play part 1 nearly flawlessly (Recruiting all units, getting all the items and stat ups, etc.) to even stand a chance, thus making part 1 excessively difficult simply because of all the things you need to do, and with a time limit no less (Read: Damas).

Once you've memorized part 1, it becomes fairly easy, but part 2 is hard no matter what.

QUOTE (Bobryk @ Jun 24 2012, 08:44 PM)

God, I hate the quad-mimic chest. When Roy's door way is opened, six thieves appear, and if they get a chance to escape, that god damn chest will ruin everything.

Fun little bit of history behind the part 2 game over chest. I originally had the CG prepared for one of my other hacks, but decided that it would work perfectly in the context of a Ragefest submission.

QUOTE (Bobryk @ Jun 24 2012, 08:44 PM)

What the... You must've gotten a lucky critical on the bastard. Either that, or you just sent Sophia in with Luna, rescued her with Clarine, ran off, took with another unit, and dropped sophia somewhere, then rinse and repeat. Though, the latter strategy would be really hard to pull off given the enemy rush that occurs after you open Roy's door.

I'm going to have to disagree about Roy being easy. If I left him on the throne and gave him a 1-2 range sword, he'd just be tedious/luck based, which is something I really hate. Bosses who move are almost always more difficult to handle mainly because you can't just take your time wittling down their health; failing to kill them as fast as you can most often results in the death of a unit. This is especially so with Roy since not only can he double anyone with 16 AS or lower, but he also has that instant-crit super omega dick face sword.

Granted, I could have made him harder by giving him a 1-2 range sword and maybe balancing that by making it possible to survive the god damn thing. In fact, maybe I'll do that for the extra mode.
QUOTE (Bobryk @ Jun 24 2012, 08:44 PM)

Thanks. Do you have any thoughts on the story? I was going for a sort of "People will enjoy this story mainly because of all the things it didn't explain, and make crack-pot speculations and theories" story.

QUOTE (Bobryk @ Jun 24 2012, 08:44 PM)

ps CLARINE AND CATH ARE THE WORST UNITS EVER. THEY GOT ONE SHOTTED SO MANY DAMN TIMES.

Clarine has the invaluable ability to heal your units, rescue any of them, and move again after any non-battle/healing action, and Cath can steal, making her a necessity in part 1. In part 2, she's not very useful, but there's still stuff to steal here and there. If you train her, she becomes about as good as Fir in terms of stats (But is inferior due to not having the weapon level to use the Astra Sword).

YES! I had to start the whole game over because my state nearest to the point where I could do anything about it was like 3 turns in. Infuritatingly hilarious.

QUOTE

True...she did hit lvl 20...ah well XD

Damn it. lol. That would've saved me some effort there.

I totally understand that. Part one was a bitch with all that stuff to memorize and that Cath has to be your main tank for a while, haha.

Part two was definitely more rewarding to beat than one. Damn that infinitely respawning paladin one-hitting Clarine every chance he got.

QUOTE

Ahhhh yes. Hujix. How'd you manage to kill him?

With the most bullshit strategy ever.

I got annihilated by berserks my first try to so I just ran through with all my chest keys to trial-and-error the chests before reloading my save. (I was pretty pumped to find the restore staff there.)

Then I loaded the nearest save, checked his berserk range and killed all the enemies rushing from the top without putting anyone in it. That was a HUGE bitch to do.

Then I blitzed for the restore staff chest, had someone be "bait" for the berserks and restore them each turn.

To kill him I put Sophia with Luna on the right wall to pull him over (he had moved once to berserk so he was in range). So I killed him my next turn.

It was a huge bitch and time consuming as hell but it worked.

QUOTE

As soon as I saw the thieves I was like ****@ and made Cath just sit on the chest until I killed them all, lol.

And that CG totally worked. I was all like "wtf?" and then game over sad.gif

I think she had a ~20% chance of critical or so (granted she was lvl 19). But if she didn't critical Lilina or Shigied/swordslayer could have finished him off. That swordslayer is a GODSEND.

And I took out the enemies around Roy slowly using those two pillars/Wendy as a meatshield in the small room before the chest. It surprisingly worked (Wendy was lvl 20). So Roy and a couple random units were the only ones left on the last turn I needed.

But yeah you bring good points about balancing Roy. if he was on the throne it would have sucked, and 1-2 range probably would've killed most of my units in one round. But hey, that's what lucky Luna criticals are for!

QUOTE

Thanks. Do you have any thoughts on the story? I was going for a sort of "People will enjoy this story mainly because of all the things it didn't explain, and make crack-pot speculations and theories" story.

I didn't play it for the story, but I was impressed that something like that could be squeezed into such a tiny hack. I was kinda feeling a little sympathy for Roy when he said he didn't want to die. Interesting...

Oh, don't get me wrong, you'd be screwed without those two. Well, you can't do the game without Cath and you don't have enough toast/crack (that sounds really funny to say..."I didn't have enough toast or crack!") to do anything in part two without Clarine.

But that reinforcement paladin...I can't count the amount of times he killed Clarine >.<

To kill him I put Sophia with Luna on the right wall to pull him over (he had moved once to berserk so he was in range). So I killed him my next turn.

It was a huge bitch and time consuming as hell but it worked.

This is one of the biggest problems I feel the chapter has. For the most part, the pacing is really good, and maintains a constant flow of stuff happening, but dealing with Hujix takes needlessly long because of how incredibly dangerous he is. He's definitely worse than Roy.

As soon as I saw the thieves I was like ****@ and made Cath just sit on the chest until I killed them all, lol.

And that CG totally worked. I was all like "wtf?" and then game over sad.gif

The timing that cutscene has when it transitions to the game over is the icing on the cake. Just lots of silence, then the error screen, then a slow fade out, and then...

This is especially so with Roy since not only can he double anyone with 16 AS or lower, but he also has that instant-crit super over omega dick face sword.

Granted, I could have made him harder by giving him a 1-2 range sword and maybe balancing that by making it possible to survive the god damn thing. In fact, maybe I'll do that for the extra mode.

Wait, you had three level 20 units? At best, I've only reached level 20 with two. I presume the amount of time it took you to defeat Hujix gave you enough experience from infini-spawners to max out three units?

Well, he DID save the world. And then after finding the love of his life, he eventually ends up [EXPUNGED] and then Sophia and Co. have to kill him. And he was only 16 years old, and pretty much lived his entire life in hardship.

And then when you kill him, it feels like a shred of humanity is still left in him despite everything, and it gives you a feeling... "Maybe... just maybe... he could have been saved"

At least, that's how I see it.

Step on his spawn point~
