I have to say, I quite like your interpretation. Based on what was stated in the book, your argument makes a lot of sense. (except one part: Tristan and Terrowan are not descendants of the Legends. But I think you meant the Order anyway. Either way, that doesn't hamper your argument.) Again, everything you say is sound. There are some things you don't know yet about the Black Knight, Tristan's mommy and Hell's forces, but as I said, from what you know, this argument is spot on.

Just don't forget about the Seventh Crusader's actions and his history. (Refer to Part One: Chapter 10 for a refresher.) The page right before the table of contents could tell you something as well.

Other than that, I won't tell you if any of your assumptions are correct or not. Mainly because everything will be stated in due time.

Thanks for the arguments. It's great to know that people are seeing this story in different ways!

Ah, shoot, I was thinking with the unique blood and what happened with the ghosts under the Oro mountains he actually had "holy" blood flowing through him... Well, you're right, it doesn't really change what I said.

Oh, hey, I called it holy blood. It's suggested Sigurd is descended from the First Crusader. Fire Emblem Sigurd is descended from a holy crusader who saved the world from evil. He has holy blood too! I think it's safe to assume that's coincidence, though. Somehow I don't see you taking FE4 and writing this book basically about its main character. Have you even played FE4?

It's a huge coincidence. I've played Fe4, and you can expect that I went -.- when I saw that similarity. Ah well.

My Crusaders don't have "holy" blood; theirs is different and based on willpower rather than a god's power. I believe this is stated or hinted at somewhere in the book. If not, I'm getting screwed up on when it actually happens >.>. One of the definitions of "crusader" is "a vigorous campaigner for or against something" and doesn't have to deal with gods or religion.

And as far as Tristan's blood goes, he does have "holy blood." He has the blood of the Order, who believe they share the blood of God himself.

Two different blood types going on there!

Fun fact: I got the name Sigurd while I was sitting in my biology class and we were talking about some old guy named Sigurd who did something in science. I was like "oh hey, Sigurd's a pretty cool name. I'm gonna use that." After looking it up, turns out Sigurd was the name of a Crusader in ancient times. Interesting...

It's sort of funny how I got the names of my characters, actually >.>

I hate to interrupt the long spoilered conversation between you two writers.

But I'm curious. How have sales been since the book released? Making any decent cash yet?

Haha it's cool.

Sales have been pretty solid. I don't know the exact amount, but I've made a grand or so in the last month, give or take.

I was making a lot more until Amazon/B&N started being dicks and raised the price by $6 one night three weeks ago -.-

Hmm. You'd think that being the author, you'd get a say in the pricing.

Also I might end up getting your book after all. I've gotten nothing back from my cancellation request(that's what I get from buying from a third party merchant on amazon) and they might end up shipping the book before they even notice my request. xD

It's actually the publisher that sets the list price. They then sell it in bulk to resellers for a discount. The list price for mine ($19.99) is pretty standard, but the discounted price is, well, not good. It used to be around $13 so my publisher is clearly giving a discount (I believe they said somewhere around 40%), but I bet it's Amazon/B&N that want to make a bit more cash. Hence the price raises.
I study business in school so I know this stuff relatively well. Just the market being dumb. (Yes, I study business...I'm no English major!)

And sweet. I bet you got it for a cheaper price anyway, since the third party guys are allowed to sell for less than the Amazon price. But if you cancelled the order within a day is should (in theory...) stop the payment/shipment.

So I'm about halfway through the book now (Chapter 15ish) and here's my most liked/least favorite characters.

Spoiler (Click Here To Hide/Show Text)

Most liked: Euwart and Adrian so far are my favorite characters of the lot. They both have obvious flaws but there dialogue and shenanigans make them incredibly likable despite those flaws.
Adrian is probably the coolest "establishment" character I've seen in a while, although I do kinda wonder why the other 3 guards seem to have been completely forgotten in some parts.
Euwart is just a gold mine of funny lines and is the most likable one of the two, although maybe only because he's been around longer. The part where he jokes Tristan about being out the entire journey was my favorite joke in a long time despite how cheesy it almost seems, because by then we know that Tristan would fall unconscious for that long and Euwart would behave like that to him.

Least liked: Llyod. That mostly stems from the fact that his character so far is probably the most faithful rendition of the the cliche you see in most tabletop RPGs and RPs:
-He's a swordsman who is extremely good and could probably kill everything
-He's about as likable as a sack of bricks
-He's quiet and brooding
-No memory/parents/connections
-Loner
He doesn't ruin the book by any means, but I kind of hope he changes a little bit by the end of the book.

YES. YOU ARE AWESOME. FINALLY SOMEONE POINTS OUT TWO OF THE THINGS I WANTED PEOPLE TO NOTICE!

First things first: I'm wholeheartedly surprised at how many people favor Adrian. Like, I seriously am. I'm kinda having trouble what you mean by establishment character, though :S. You mean, like, a character who kinda knows what's going on/what to do? (Ex: Gandalf in LOTR) or am I completely wrong?

About the two things you're awesome for:

1. The joke! Finally someone comments on Euwart's joke on Tristan! That was a spur of the moment thing and I really couldn't help myself, even knowing how lame and cheesy it was tongue.gif. It's actually one of my favorite humorous bits in the book, with my other favorite happening a bit later on.

2. FINALLY SOMEONE NOTICES LLOYD BEING CLICHE! He is intended to be completely cliche. Like, I had to try really hard to make him as cliche as possible, but still had to be careful (obviously). People who don't play a lot of RPGs tend to like Lloyd because they aren't familiar with his character type, but those who play a lot of them tend to not like him as much. I won't spoil anything about his character, but remember this is a series. Plenty of time for stuff to happen, amirite?

About the three guardsmen-- them being "forgotten" at times is also intended. When you finish the book you'll see why I did it, and I'll delve into my reasoning for it (it's not so much a story related detail-- more of a writing related detail).

Enjoy the rest of it! And if you've done so thus far, you'll love it even more once you start/finish chapter 15+.

Awesome that those things were intentional, gives me a lot more spur to read it. By establishment, I just meant a character who is already from an established place before being thrown into a situation. IE Adrian is a guard forced to travel across the world. Also he's cool like Gandalf for seemingly being one of the few(assumed) people in the book who are competent about maps and serving as a role model.

It was roughly 12:43, according to my new watch. I was sitting in my traditional corner seat at my grandparents' then-packed house, observing everyone else open their first and second presents while pondering what mine could possibly be and debating throwing a wrapping paper ball at one of my sisters (either or; as long as my flimsy missile connected with a face, the "who" aspect was unimportant). Thankfully for me, I abandoned this stupid idea as soon as a wrapped, floppy package hit my empty lap, being thrown a fair distance by my grandfather. Eager, nimble fingers met paper and began to rend, revealing a glimpse of two faces, one male and one female…

Though my other spoils from this particular Christmas included a RC indoor helicopter and Mario Kart 7, the thing I focused my day on first was your book, and I have to say, it was quite a book to focus one's day on, even if I missed getting a signed copy. But oh well, your name in indelible pen did not affect the story, and so here are my unaffected opinions on said story:

Opinions (Click Here To Hide/Show Text)
The fight scenes REALLY took me back to Fire Emblem. Been a while since I played, but having a bunch of smaller units take out the troops while one or two heroes pulled amazing moves brought back definite memories of the good old Sacred Stones gang. The cavern fight scene, especially, was reminiscent of the last two levels of that game, leading up to the fight with Fomortiis. This was a little negative at first in the cavern scene as it was Lloyd and not Sigurd, Euwart, or Tristan (who I consider the main characters rather than anyone else), but it was fine because Euwart slaying the chimera didn't seem right, Tristan gets his moment, and Sigurd's going to have an even better moment eventually (being the MAIN main character, in my opinion... am I wrong for thinking so? Is it that they're all equally main?). The party did rely on Lloyd a bit too much in general, though.

Long story short, I loved it. When can we expect the sequel, Mr. Author? :3

Favorite Characters (Click Here To Hide/Show Text)
Sigurd, Euwart, and Tristan were probably my favorite characters, though I loved everyone's distinct personalities a lot, especially Adrian's more fun-loving side; that surprised me quite a bit, honestly. I like Sigurd because he's the sort of character who reacts well to leadership and doesn't go mad with power. Seems like he was born to lead, actually. wink.gif Tristan, on the other hand, fills our "bookish kid meets real world" role, and judging from his seeking training with Lloyd and eventually finishing the Black Knight, he met it pretty well. I ended up kind of liking Lloyd DUE to his cliche-ness, oddly enough, despite the fact that I usually dislike the excessively nonchalant, bored warrior sort of character. His removed sort of personality was also played pretty well into hilarity. Lastly, Euwart was also exceedingly funny most of the time, due partially to his personality and mainly to his swearing. I thought it was funny, anyway; one of the heroes destined to save the world just constantly spewing cusses in the least appropriate times. This would've degraded him to purely comic relief, but his serious moments, especially when discussing his poorness with Sig and how he apologizes to Rose for yelling at her redeem him and upgrade him to a kind of serious guy trying to act happy for everyone else's sake, which reminds me of myself sometimes. You get anyone identifying with your characters yet, or am I the first? Anyway, though I liked Sig, Euwart, and Tristan the most, you did a fine job fleshing out everyone's personality.

Thanks for the opinions! I'll get to answering right now!

Sig, Euwart, Tristan and Lloyd are what I like to call "The Big Four," but Sig is essentially the "focus" character. Adrian is a phrase I've coined called a "major-minor" character, in that he's not one of the major players, but is quite important when around.

The caverns battle reminded you of Sacred Stones and Formortiis, eh? Never thought of that! And Lloyd was the focus there because the others aren't quite as skilled...yet. And yes, Sigurd tends to be a natural leader at times, no? Though it can be argued he makes a few mistakes along the way...

And some people have made connections to my characters, though I didn't really base any of them off of real life people. Fun fact: Each major character has a tad of my personality (or a trait of mine) in them, including Adrian.

One thing I tried to do was flesh everyone's personalities and make them completely different from one another (even in dialect) so thanks for letting me know I did that well!

Thanks for reading. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

And I'm currently writing the sequel. I'd like it to be out this summer, but that depends on how fast I can get it done!

Lloyd is that important? Huh, I somehow never thought so, despite when he talks about his first memory... Smashed, why you no read books right?

That bit about the caverns also makes sense, now that I think about it. It'd be bad if we look at this book as a book by itself, but it's fine because it's a series, not just a book. Character development and all.

...I feel like I should be saying more, but I can't think of anything...

Oh ok, generic question: what was your favorite part to write?

Also, how do you feel about the cover? Is that how you imagined Sig and Rose?

Ah! More people talking!

x (Click Here To Hide/Show Text)

I don't know why I didn't mention the joke played on Tristan- I found it hilarious. I think what made it was Euwart's language. If he had just been like, "Just kidding," it wouldn't have been as funny as "Nah, I'm ****in' with ya."

As for Lloyd's clicheness, well, since it has been pointed out, at first it bothered me, too. But I think it was used well and he was still made to be entertaining. It helped that his bloodthirstiness was shown more than in a lot of cases and we actually saw him murder for entertainment, and as the book goes on it becomes evident that, at least to a certain extent, he's only playing the role of the cliche swordsman.

Zomg people talking about my stuff. I feel like an English teacher who just assigned a reading or something XD

Anyways, to answer some stuffs:

@ SmashedbiologistFish

x (Click Here To Hide/Show Text)

Yep, Lloyd is that important!

And yes, characters can't undergo epic changes in the first book and stay the same for the others...that would make things a bit stale, I think! That's also why some questions have remained unanswered...to be answered later when the group becomes more informed or aware of what's going on. (They really don't have much of a clue right now.)

Hrm, my favorite part to write...that's a tough question. That's tough because my overall favorite scene written hasn't been published yet! heh. But as for this book, I'd have to say the group's confrontation with King Lennard. Mostly because I knew how that whole seen would play out years and years ago. Nothing has changed about that scene...ever.

It's always been up there on my favorite's list just because it misses up people's thoughts on Lloyd (for the most part) and in my opinion includes one of his most bad ass lines (though he has and will continue to have many). I just like that scene a lot, tbh.

Though writing the Oro caves was fun too-- mainly since that was a spur of the moment thought. They were originally going to go over the mountain, which would definitely not have been as exciting.

As for the cover, I ****ing love it. I imagined Sig with shorter hair, but everything else about him is pretty solid. Rose is decently spot-on, but on the cover it's hard to tell what colors her eyes are, but she's supposed to have dark blue eyes.

Either way though, they did an amazing job with it. The mountains in the distance, the armies racing into battle on the bottom...I LOVE IT! It captures the book perfectly.

Also, if you could tell that those two were supposed to be Sig and Rose, then I'd say it does a good job! tongue.gif

@Rujio

x (Click Here To Hide/Show Text)

Ah yes, playing the role of cliche swordsman. I wonder what that will lead to? Is it actually his personality or just an alias? Does he even remember? Is Lloyd even his name? Or is he, perhaps, a double agent? WHO KNOWS!?!?

[Ok I got a bit overboard there, but I couldn't help myself XD]

Hahaha Nayr, I may mimic that exact photo for the Facebook page XD. That's great.

And Rujio, I was thinking this summer, but that depends on when I finish it at the publishing process starts. (People have told me that summer is too early I should wait until more copies of this one sell but frankly I DGF. I write to entertain, not to profit.) Plus, since there's a lot of stuff that connects, relates or directly impacts the other books, them coming out rather quickly makes it so people don't have to refresh themselves much. The little details can be quite important at times!

I'll be making a new thread dedicated to the second book probably soon (maybe a week or so?) when a few more things work out and I get more progress done.
