Doesn't Tactics Universe change events? I've not heard of the other two but I know Tactics Universe changes event data. My words weren't directed at hacks that changed event data. It was directed at ones that don't. I probably should've said "Ones that don't event hack can hardly if at all change story" |
Ah, kay, I get it. You were saying that of the hacks that don't change events, the most changed story is found in GhebFE, but even THAT isn't that much changed.
I think I can comprehend.

Also, I'd like to debate you about short bows, as there is no reason all bows should not be 1-2 range anyway. If you can take time to read a fracking book to cast a spell, you can shoot someone in the face with an arrow.
Blagh.
Also, from the list, there has never been a FE ROM hack that meets your standards besides TU?

- Throne'd Bosses with Elixirs: Oh boy. I get to fight the same boss for another 10 ****ing turns, all because he decided he wanted all of his health back. (Real War Chronicles) - Short bows with 1 ~ 2 range: This is so god damn cliche. If you want to make archers USEFUL, exploit her strengths. Add more ballistas (And make them easier to access), flying units, or just increase the class base stats and/or character growths. Seriously. (EVERY ****ING ROM HACK) - Generic enemies with ridiculous stats that make progression tedious as all ****. (Requiem of War, GhebFE) - Prepromoted enemy units in early chapters (Curse of The Emblem) - MEME ABUSE (GhebFE) - Luck based difficulty (GhebFE) - Enemys that spawn RIGHT NEXT TO YOU before enemy phase starts (FE8 Girls) - Tons of generic enemies with vulneraries (Requiem of War) - Units that are useless or supercompetent (GhebFE) |
Sounds like somebody doesn't like challenges...

- Have you released the latest version of Curse of the Emblem?
- Whether you haven't or not, I'll compromise and change my post to mention the OLD version of Curse of the Emblem.
- I don't like short bows with 1 - 2 range. Even if you could realistically shoot a person in front of you using a bow and arrow, in fire emblem, it doesn't work like that. Archers are notorious for not being able to attack up close, and I prefer it that way.
- Tactics Universe isn't the only hack that I feel is worth waiting for. Apil Juce looks promising. I just kinda wish some of the dialogue wasn't as childish. GhebSaga looks like it COULD be good. I just don't wanna play through several chapters of reskin just to get to the good stuff. I recently taught MageKnight404 how to event hack, so his sacred dawn hack will no doubt become a lot more than it was when it was first showcased. Assuming you learn event hacking, I think your mod too has potential.
Response to Seraphinox:
- Enemies that spawn right next to you before enemy phase isn't challenge. It's a cheap and unfair move that requires you to memorize levels.
- Generic enemies with high stats is stupid and lazy. Good design would have units cleverly positioned so that attacking them is risky.
- Early prepromoted enemies give tons of experience. Making it easy to make your units high level before the next chapter.
- Throne'd bosses with elixirs isn't challenging either. There's an easy way to get around this (manage the boss's health so that it doesn't detect it's own health is low and thus doesn't heal) but despite that, it's the fact that if you don't expect it, you basically have to refight the boss all over again.

Truth, and I agree that shortbows having 1-2 range is dumb.
Would you think it better if people took the time to make crossbows, icons for said weapons, and animations for said weapons as well, to have an archer be able to attack 1-2 spaces?
I'd like that. Taking a page from FE10.

Making crossbows and adding icons for them would be nice. I'm indifferent to animations though. I feel crossbows, if balanced right, would work for archers. I'm just tired of the lazy + overused short bow with 1 -2 range gimmick every damn hack has.

I'm gonna try for that crossbow thing I mentioned.

I dunno if I'm gonna play your hack, but even if I don't, I'm sure plenty other people will enjoy crossbows in your hack. It's nice to know.

I'm working on a hack and I myself was going to give a shortbow 1-2 range, until I realized how overused it was, so I'm going to leave all bows with 2-2+ range except the sacred bow which is going to have 1-3 ( rip off double bow)

When making a rom hack, the following are what I believe should be prioritized upon: - Custom Maps - Custom Event Data - Character Balance - Difficulty Curve |
so far I have a few custom maps I made and put into my hack, I'm working on character balance but I'll probably have to do a few playthroughs before I decide who's really balanced or not and my hack starts easy and get's to be really hard but not overkill, oh yeah and I decided the beserk staff won't be in my fire emblem at all because I hate that staff so much in enemy hands.

@markyjoe1990 I just watched the videos in the first post and I love the mod so far, I like a lot of hacks, but without map changes it feels like playing the same fire emblem with different characters. I'm working on a hack and I myself was going to give a shortbow 1-2 range, until I realized how overused it was, so I'm going to leave all bows with 2-2+ range except the sacred bow which is going to have 1-3 ( rip off double bow)

Alright. Sounds good.
By the way, if anyone wants their rom hack reviewed, me and my friend BuringPenitentEngine have youtube accounts and would be happy to review a few Fire Emblem hacks (I'd prefer if you guys went to BuringPenitentEngine since I wanna help get him some publicity). Just be forewarned: we withhold the right to not hold back ANYTHING we say.

Question though, can it be a DS FE hack, or does it have to be a GBA one?

^I'll be sure to take you up on that deal later with at least one hack Question though, can it be a DS FE hack, or does it have to be a GBA one? |
Anything'll do for me. Not sure about BuringPenitentEngine though. I don't think he has played any of the japanese Fire Emblems besides Fire Emblem 6, so he might not be aware of certain features in older games and thus have a slight disadvantage gameplay wise.
Ah yes, and if you're going to send either of us ROM hacks, I'd like to see funny/interesting dialogue. We tend to do blind playthroughs, so our reactions are typically genuine.
Alternatively, you can send me a REALLY BAD hack and watch me explode at it for your entertainment. Dunno if BuringPenitentEngine will do that himself, but I love riffing on things.

Not looking good for that soldier or the guy with Lyn. Actually maybe it is looking good for him...
I gotta say that map looks kinda bland lol. And I dislike the fact that you used a black and red Eliwood which has already been done before.
Aside from that, it looks pretty good. Eye iz cureius as ta wut teh Luner Sordz duz.
Anyhow, I like.

The black clothing Eliwood's been done before? Eh. That's fine. I liked how he looked in black so I kept it.
And yeah, the map really isn't my best work. I could've improved the mountains and such in retrospect (Though the ONE ROAD was fully intentional). Take note however, that there's a map change gimmick in this episode, which compromised some of the map design quality. You'll see the gimmick when BuringPenitentEngine does the episode (Note: It isn't really all that special of a gimmick).
