not sure what Ryru went through, but I'll cross that bridge when the time comes. the way you're putting it feels the same to me as saying I should give up because I'm going to suffer no matter what. but even if I suffer, if I suffer in the way that I want, in a way that I can accept and deal with, then that's something. it will be tough in the future, but the here and now also matters. I can't worry too much about a future I can't predict that well. like you said, it depends on how I can handle it, though naturally losing something important to someone will hurt. even so... even so

....

that

actually wasn't a bad fight (granted I like action in general)

wasn't fantastic but wasn't bad. maybe this anime is decent? there was that one "beautiful" scene I didn't appreciate much though

I haven't been properly keeping up with F/SN UBW but I can guess what "fight" that is, maybe because it was already done so excellently in the movie they were lazier or something, idk, I'd have to see to be sure I guess, haha. in general though the fight/animation/effects tend to be fantastic, esp. compared to most other anime, IMO

I assure you that the anime is far from worthwhile if you're anyone that isn't either:

1:obsessed with Hestia's string (yes, a string)

2:completely and absolutely enamored by how much of a cutie the main character is and start getting super excited whenever he does and says absolutely anything whatsoever. (It's like videos of bunnies. They don't need to be doing anything outstanding. They are outstanding enough in themselves to warrant recording them.)

I only posted what I did because it was the only fight scene I particularly cared about in the show tbh

oh okay

well you're probably being a bit pessimistic as always but I will take your word to heart and not watch it after all then

(this makes my life easier as I wasn't actually looking to watch new anime anyway but it almost seemed like a decent show there and I can be persuaded to do silly things in the heat of the moment lol)

Yahari episode was meh, and this is coming from someone that watches it for comedic reasons. It certainly looks like it would please the shippers though. Yui x Yukino or GTFO

But I do have to say that the voice actor for Hikigaya is perfect. I can't even come close to imagining one more fitting of the character in any moment he has.

I'd actually probably have liked watching this episode some more if it wasn't for how Hikigaya just seems ridiculously out of place in any scenes remotely like this. At least it isn't Zaimowhatever taking his place. It's like if all the Hikigaya family scenes were done with Komachi looking like this:

I haven't really touched Anime recently since I last finished K-On and watched like 3 episodes of Lucky Star (which was... odd and wasn't terrible, but not as enjoyable to me as K-On was). I'll probably pick it up again and finish it relatively soon I suppose.

Fate/Stay Night's finisher to the fight feels like a total borefest. Narratively higher quality. Better direction. Emotionally uninteresting.

Don't do this to me, I wanted to enjoy unlimited budget works. It was going to fill out the summer which is looking pretty bare(and let's be honest that part is the only real reason to watch UBW over fate/stay night.) Is it at least on par with the movie version?

I liked the movie version better.

Too much time is spent only talking(and talking slowly), Shirou is consistently shown to suck when it comes to fighting, rather than a fight to the death the cheorography feels somewhat more like they are just tired of this shit and want to get it over with (not the animators, the characters themselves), too much time is spent away from the actual fighting bit, it does not mesh well with the Lancer and Rin bits (but that's a problem in all UBW adaptations), it ends on a "weak cliffhanger" (in that what it's cliffhanger'd from has already reached it's conclusion, so there is no sense of any real mystery over what's gonna happen next to keep you hooked, which is ok if marathoning, otherwise kind of ew), and yet the next episode continues the fight at a similar pace and ends at like, the halfway point or something before then. Also they always use the same weapon.

(I tried to be as unspoilery to people that wouldn't know what this means already, so it's kind of weirdly said.)

Basically, they turned a thriller into a drama. And the latter is only interesting to people invested in the story and characters.

I like the fight with Gilgamesh more, personally.

"You asshole, that stuff is patented!"

"Well, I can't afford a lawyer, so...SWORDS IT IS."

"NO! THIS CANNOT BE! HOW COULD MASS PRODUCED UNORIGINAL CRAP OUTDO MY ORIGINAL TREASURES?! FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU-"

"DON'T UNDERESTIMATE CHINA, BITCH!"

And then instead of having the time to duke it out in a political discussion that debates over if the industrial revolution was worth it or not a random magical bullshit hazard shows up to fuck him over. Everybody's happy!

That was literally the best description I've seen. I'm probably going to quote you on that later.

Edit:on the gilgamesh thing. Basically I have no more reason to watch UBW tbh. Was really only watching for that fight.

(cut)

Yeah it wasn't very good compared to the usual, and it was very rushed, a little bit more-so than normal. I liked the light novel version of it better because it was much more insightful and stuff. That being said they only have so many episodes and such so they've gotta do what they've gotta do. Does make me wish the anime were 25 episodes though, I'd LOVE the added depth/slower pace, because this show totally has room for it (just include more of Hikki's monologues/insight and bring back the cut-out scenes, lol).

also screw most of the shippers, not because shipping is wrong, but because people become complete morons about it and it's annoying as heck

oh yeah, the Crunchyroll translation was also bad IMO, and that's coming from someone who doesn't even speak Japanese (Commie's might be better but I don't know, I have it downloaded but didn't watch it for reasons) and a couple of the scenes didn't make too much sense to me, IMO... (like the part where Hikki and Yukinon get cut-off felt kind of forced/inorganic)

Shipping pretty much requires that you be an uncompromising asshole about it. It only happens in the first place(outside of canon couples) because people see characters, and then go "fuck their actual feelings, THOSE TWO SHOULD TOTALLY BE DOING IT IN THE BUTT." (I did say uncompromising assholes.) It's like a parent that tries to arrange marriages for you who then lashes out at you for not accepting their generosity because they can't understand why you wouldn't want to be with their choice for you. (This is also why I say fuck it to giving your family permission to have any relevance in your romantic life, unless you need to rely on them for connections or funding. Mothers-in-law being pretty much potentially the worst person a wife can ever meet in their entire lives is a huge factor in it too.)

(like the part where Hikki and Yukinon get cut-off felt kind of forced/inorganic)

The roller coaster scene? What I got out of it is:

  • Yukino is being portrayed as kinda flirty (she's timing her words in a way that makes it hard for Hikigaya to respond, and might even be going for misattribution of arousal. I blame Iroha. Or even Haruno.)
  • She knows there is a picture about to be taken when they're about to take the fall, and so does something that makes them face each other (you can see her putting a piece of paper down her bag later, iirc.)
  • The foreshadowing to this scene is Yukino being stubborn about going on the ride even though she isn't really good with them.

no I meant went Yui goes ahead and the two of them get left behind. I mean, they're kinda slow/walk in the back, but I feel like I didn't really understand the context of the scene, at least in the anime.

also I didn't see it as being flirty but perspective, I guess. she definitely timed it purposely, but our perspective seems to differ a lot on the other parts, lol. oh well. (I more or less agree that most people shipping results in simple shallow statements, assessments, etc. based on looks and vague or tropey character traits and stuff and that's why it's annoying, or whatever)

excellent episode IMO (I'm too impatient to wait for subbed again, loool)

and I don't even like the party

seems like volume 10 is being done

Yukino's mom ._.

the relationship(s) between Hayama, Haruno, and Yukino ._.

eh pretty much every major character had some cool moments this week, in their own ways (Hikigaya, Isshiki, Yui, Yukino, Hayama, and some cameos of sorts from other characters =P)

Hachiman getting along with people better :D (kind of sad the pacing is so fast though they had to skip a lot of details/fleshing things out though, ._., the stuff they cut out from the light novel really adds to the character depth, bonds between characters, and insight into how Hikigaya thinks QQ)

but yeah overall great episode of Oregairu IMO

aaaand AC should be pretty funny/cool too, for what it's worth, so that's tomorrow.  and then nothing anime for the rest of the week really (unless I decide to watch old anime)... such is how boring the season has been to me outside of the 2 amazing shows. (man I am such an Oregairu fanboy ughhh it's just too good I can't handle it I love it too much I don't care if it makes me a weeb it's freaking aaaawwwweeesoooooommme between this and One Piece my life is like way more fulfilling but once they're gone it's like ughhh my life is so much more depressing and empty and worthless T_T <- emotionally unstable)

dungeon show is still entertaining. i really thought it was going to get old, but i can't be bored with it. i tried, it didn't work. also the blacksmith guy(welf crozzo) is far more interesting than the MC whose entire premise is "weeeeee i'm gonna be a hero, but in an adorable way"(just a heads up i'm not saying that's a bad thing, but that's literally what's going on right now). welf has a backstory. albeit an overused backstory, but it is there.a also i just like blacksmith characters. they're kinda always badasses.

I don't think I've ever seen Welf's backstory used before in the context he has it. It's certainly not a complex backstory, but characters that are primarily interested in selling things in the first place are rarely represented enough for them to even bother giving them anything of the sort. A problem with protagonist characters is in that what the story is about is affected really strongly by what they want and can do, so a lot of what goes into making them is "what do I want the plot and setting to be" rather than "who do I want this person to be?" which often results in making them more limited in options unless you feel like having an unconventional story in itself.

Also, I feel like, ironically, a lot of people outright want a "self-insert" protagonist. The difference being that they want to insert themselves into the protagonist, instead of letting the author do so. "I don't want this guy to be a PERSON. I'm not reading this to watch someone ELSE be awesome. I want to feel like I'M the one going through something awesome!" This is why relatability is emphasized to all hell. I generally do not care about this in any case I'm not specifically making a customizable character in a videogame(and even then it's not like those videogames really make me feel like I have much control over my character, aside from MMOs.)

I like Bell in that he's not really concerned over being a hero for the sake of making the world a better place or anything. He just wants to be awesome and end up being capable of standing as an equal to his crush. It's far more personal to him than anything morally based. The show always highlights how much of a little kid he is, and even what I just mentioned is part of what makes him so innocent. Shallow, simple, too young and naturally sweet to even have any meaningful character flaws to him. You can save that shit for bitter, tragic, desperate warriors that will never get what they want in the end. Someone I don't want to be happy because they're too relatable (which ironically decreases my empathy for them.)

Started watching Oda Nobuna no Yabou, basically nobunaga's ambition turned anime with a few twists. Only 12 episodes, so I'll probably finish it pretty fast as I've enjoyed it so far 5 episodes in.

*this week in Blazer-gets-depressed-by-Oregairu*

new Oregairu episode is out
[5:16:56 PM] ballin1337: I made a huge mostly incoherent wall of text on it
[5:17:02 PM] ballin1337: it really depressed me

You'll understand why once you watch it. But.
[5:17:42 PM] ballin1337: As one of my favorite characters. Watching that episode was difficult. Not just for Yui though.
[5:17:48 PM] ballin1337: For Yukino too. And Hachiman.

[5:28:43 PM] ballin1337: "Q. The finale will be something you can’t avoid feeling painful about, so look forward to it."

this was in an interview with the producer of the anime
[5:28:45 PM] ballin1337: I
[5:28:46 PM] ballin1337: I can't
[5:28:48 PM] ballin1337: I'm going to die

[5:33:30 PM] ballin1337: I'm just going to
[5:33:41 PM] ballin1337: sit here and be depressed

they adapted volume 11 of the LN. it's way too feels-heavy for me. I actually can feel a hole in my chest close to my heart. no wait that's definitely my heart. yeah, I feel something there.

stupid Haruno. stupid everything. askdjasidsaodjisd. stupid. stupid. stupid. nnnnnnnnnnnhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

[5:34:40 PM] ballin1337: I need help... maybe if I bash my head against my desk...

To make things worse, next episode might not be catharsis. It might be somewhat of a somber or cliffhanger ending. It's... ugh. I don't know what to expect. How to feel. What to do. I'm lost. I'm going crazy. It's probably not healthy for me to watch this show. I am way too clingy/emotionally invested. I need to step away somehow, but I can't. Ughhh. The pacing really doesn't help. It's way too fast-paced. Throws me on an emotional rollercoaster constantly. asdkjasidosaiodiaosdasdijalsdjasd.

Someone save me.

(Not really.

But.

I'm actually kind of dying inside.

Goodbye.)

Well, I started to watch Saint Seiya Soul of Gold, the new spin off of the series.

And to be honnest, this spin off has a great potential but there's so many default.

-the animation : I suppose that 70% of the money goes to the opening and the ending (because they are amazing) but the episodes are not well animated and sometimes not really beautiful.

-The numbers of episodes : 13... TOO SHORT! the battles are fast and we can't apreciate them... and the ennemies aren't well developped as a consequence.

but the story is quite interesting, it's a pleasure to see the Golds Saints. you can watch it, but as a fan you can be a bit disappointed.
