Fine, it's a Puzzle Platformer, but Portal's here.
But really to start...what is the coolest part of the new generation? Personally, I've always thought one of the best aspects has been the ability to share and connect fans with custom content. The Elder Scrolls franchise specifically caters to this with intuitive modding software. In an era where we're going more and more into custom content, LittleBigPlanet emphasizes this greatly. Under the tagline "Play, Create, Share", you get both a story puzzle platformer which, in my opinion, exceeds that of Portal and the ability to create custom levels and play with friends.
Setting is just as awesome. Stitch Punk. Oh, and Steven Fry narrates the introduction.

I've not played any Megaman games, shoot me (but don't take my abilities).
Haha, I got stick for not putting it in my top 5 off some people I know. Opinions, man. |
lol I think if you try one (even if it's a Megaman X game) you'll get enough of an idea what they're like; platforming with shooting and weird special abilities and having to fight bosses over and over... and it's difficult lol
and yeah, you can say that last thing again >_>;

solid pick, haven't gotten to play it but it seems like a pretty fun game.
sharing content etc. seems kinda cool but it doesn't seem too widespread yet, and personally speaking I usually don't make use of it since it's pretty dang time-consuming etc., I guess I just don't have the luxury to screw around with extras, it's hard enough trying to keep up with all the games coming out just with minimalists playthroughs lol

Is that one Warped? I feel like that was the first one I played of those, fun times. Also, this.

I only ever played it on the PSP, which had less in it, but it was still good. I can imagine the PS3 one being that much more fun with creation and customising.

Hm... Screw it, how about Super Mario Bros. 3? |
That is definitely a platformer, so yes. It's also a fantastic game.

Haha, indeed. I've been playing it a lot lately, so it's been on my mind nonstop. I honestly do not mind this.

Great gameplay, music, difficulty, well-executed, great use of the Wii U gamepad, fun co-op, and generally a great game to play.
Other games I could have put up (excluding my "no two games from the same general series/franchise/whatever e.g. no 2 Mario games"):
New Super Mario Bros. 2
New Super Luigi U
Donkey Kong Country
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3
New Yoshi's Island
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic Generations (2D Part)
Mega Man X-X3
Kirby's Return to Dreamland
Kirby Super Star Ultra
Kid Icarus
There are lots more good platformers (and games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Ys: Oath in Felghana had great platforming elements as well even if that's not their main genre) but I'll leave it at that haha

Great game, though (as I said on Skype), I preferred Tooie marginally more, although they're pretty much the same.

Yeah, I was thinking about the Kirby games too.
Some other platformers on my board were:
Mario Galaxy/2/Sunshine - Eh, 'nuff said
Tearaway - Great little game, really nicely designed (all that papercraft), enjoyable music, customising was fun.
Super Meat Boy - Man, this game is fun. Lots of good levels, solid to play, the style's great. Nice feature when watching all of your deaths. Also, **** unlocking the kid. That took me ages.
Mirror's Edge - Gave it some thought here.
Anyways, I've got the next #1, so here we gooooo.
I'm picking...
The Last of Us
Maybe I'm suffering from the crime of recency here, but it's a fantastic game. Joel and Ellie are great characters who grow well, the setting was done nicely, you got a good feel for the state of the world, the interactions between people were great, etc. The combat was well done, the areas were lovely and really added to the feel of the game.
I could probably go on more, but I'll leave at that for now.

Dark Souls 2
GREAT GAME. I got it a while ago, I still haven't beaten it, but so far it has been great. I find the graphics to be good and even great in some places, some people I've met don't though, the music is incredible, and if you've played Dark Souls 1 then there are alot of references for you.
