Isn't blasting through map mitigated by having Galeforce on most flyers though?

The unit has to be pretty over powered to be effective because every enemy has an ultimate weapon so they do pretty good damage output. Heck even my maxed out general MU at level 7 went down to 18 health trying to beat the thieves to the chests. I was one turn away from having the thieves get the chests. The children characters are pretty good for this but as I said the thieves just make it a nuisance to actually get the weapons. I've now taken to forging silver/brave weapons instead of using ultimate for the hard maps.

It's not the end of the world if the thieves get the chests. I actually find it easier (that way I don't have to rush my Lon'qu up there or have someone else learn locktouch). You get ~2 turns to kill them after they get the chests as well, because they have to open the doors to the north to escape. I don't think there are buyable keys in this game, so just killing the thieves makes it a lot easier to get the weapons, imo.

I will say, I'm finding the formulae in this game to be a pain. The odds of the strong effects happening are too frequent. Counter especially.

The general pattern I have found is that nothing is a threat to reasonable strategy in reasonable difficulties except for Counter and an unlucky Aether or something like that.

I bring this up here because that's caused multiple concerns in regards to the legendary item DLC.

It is 4 star difficulty. Don't expect things to be a cake walk. With counter that is just an OP enemy skill, just exit then re-enter the map till there are no more heroes. Thou counter being an always activate is really annoying it would be better if it was like skill%.

I don't really find Counter to be much of a bother, but then again that's just because I have Galeforce on enough units to get rid of those guys ASAP. >_> (iirc, Cordelia, Severa, Morgan, My Unit, Inigo, Lucina, Olivia, and an avatar logbook MU are all Galeforce'd because I overestimated how hard Lunatic would be)

unlucky Aether

Huh?

Aether allows for 2 attacks, both of which can activate counter. I rely heavily on a "shield wall" strategy, where I allow units to fill up spaces and limit the number of attacks made by enemies (since, as we all know since the start, the AI is perfectly willing to throw armies of units to gradually wear down one unit's HP. By not fully killing an enemy, you prevent the next in line from attacking).

The problem lies in that Aether and support attacks activate at random, preventing me from doing severe, but not lethal, damage to set up a good turn of Galeforce movement attacks. Instead, I find it much riskier as now I can have a string of supposedly good abilities activate, kill, and allow another attack. So, for example, when I march on through with Chrom or Cynthia (who, in this playthrough, has Chrom as a father), for example, they get attacked, dodge, activate Aether for severe damage twice, thus exposing them to the possibility of Counter twice. Because your damage is so high, it deals way more damage than any enemy is legitimately capable of dealing (due to my general strategy of high speed fighters).

The last attempt was a legitimate burn from about 60 HP to 0 due to damage output by her alone.

Ah, I see.

Though if you're using that kind of strategy anyway, you could just unequip all those kinds of skills and remove all the weapons of whoever you're paired up with. (Unless they aren't paired up and are instead simply adjacent.)

You got me, I have no idea what I'm talking about

EDIT: oh yeah as I posted on the mainsite

Update 2 (3-12): The next DLC episode, Lost Bloodlines 3, will be out this Thursday, the 14th, allowing you to recruit Seliph and obtain the Paragon scroll (teaches the Paragon skill which nets the user 2x experience). No news of a second DLC, but we'll see. Also expect new SpotPass content as usual.

New DLC update!

March 13th, 2013: Smash Brethren 1 ($3.00, $6.50 for the 3-map package) will also be out tomorrow, 3/14. Completing it will net you a new Einherjar, Elincia. Thank you NoA for your generosity!

Updated the 1st post too as usual.

Thoughts?

Two new DLC's, I haven't played the newest ones much yet but I'm still kind of excited. I'll likely go back at some point and play them a little more, maybe farm crap... The Paragon skill is definitely something to look forward, to. (And it's a good thing you can de-equip skills since Paragon is pretty pointless on a StreetPass team, right? XD)

Wait, we're getting Smashedfish Brethren 1 too? AWESOME. And I believe we're getting a new spotpass map tomorrow as well, so that's 3 new maps to play! weeee

I'm on spring break, and since my Florida plans fell through (-.-) I haven't had much to do besides Awakening XD. Infinite Regalia is easily my favorite map so far even though I still haven't gotten a freaking Ragnell and the Dread Fighter class is really awesome. Does Elincia offer a reward besides, well, her? take that as innuendo-y as you want

That being said, Paragon should be awesome. I'm probably just going to throw my first one on to Avatar and just watch him grow shittons of levels. (Paragon + veteran = woo)

Edit: Isn't a new spotpass team being released tomorrow, too? Jesus, that's a lot of new content this week.

Just going to throw this out there, and I'm sure everyone else got it instantly, but I just realized that Smash Brethren = Smash Bros, since it features Roy and Ike.

Just played it. It was...aight. Not a whole lot of story or personality in this one. Kind of unfortunate. Even Chrom only has like 2 lines.

But at least you get the Bride class. It's pretty sweet. And, well...

Somehow, Erica's role in Smash Brethren 2 made her even more of a gullible sap.

"Oh my! We're just attacking these strangers!?...well, I guess if everyone else is doing it..."

Seriously, wasn't a fan before, and now that Nintendo has emphasized how naive she is and plopped her into a demeaning Bride class, I really have no enjoyment from her character at all.

Map was aight; Lost Bloodlines so far has definitely been a better set. (IMO)

The excuse for the character that joins you to have doubts is pretty much always very, very silly. Also consider that so many characters are exaggerated in these maps. I'm pretty sure about half the lines spoken in these chapters wouldn't have ever been said by the character the represent. It seems like they, instead of remaking the character, just make caricatures. Which, given their supposed origin, makes a whole lot of sense.

I was actually quite happy on how they focused her down after. Kind of weird they skipped the "do you know about me" section, but at least this time I actually kind of got the vibe they wanted a character who wasn't happy with the "stay on the back" role and would openly demand being put on the battlefield. As much as I dislike the class, it's at least fair at the end that she too is upset by being in (and I'll paraphrase) "this ridiculous outfit"...though to be fair, her miniskirt and thigh high boots from before wasn't exactly screaming practical clothing either (to the point where one support even points it out). It's also fair to say that, in the end, she's not naive so much as trusting beyond what others may find reasonable. Which is precisely what she brings up during her conversation.

Then again, it's been years since I played Sacred Stones, so I honestly don't remember that much about her.

Does her self awareness of it really make it any better?

It's not to say she's a 'bad character', it's just that the overly-sympathetic, easily trusting characters have never appealed to me, because I believe, like many of the characters that chastise her, that it isn't a good idea to be too trusting.

The main thing that kind of irked me is that in her default class she can't even use swords; her main weapon from her actual game. There is an item called 'Erica's sword', and Erica may not use it. (While classed in default.) What the heck? Where's the logic in making her a bow/lance/staff user?

I really think that some of the old gen characters have been dealt some minor, yet noticeable, injustices in the DLC. (Sigurd is every bit the main character of FE 4 as Celice is. He got screwed.)

(But now I'm rambling. I don't care a whole lot. This is just one of the first real things I've had to complain about in Awakening.)

I like the map itself but we already saw it once so eh

And yeah the DLC's seem to have more "plop down guys and have them fight each other" chapters than chapters with semblances of things actually happening XP

but there ARE some talk conversations here and there... Gaius and Zihark have one in SB2 I believe, they talk about the myrmidon archetype and how Zihark's personality isn't totally like that XDDD it seems to break the 4th-wall just a little tongue.gif

The Bride class is definitely awesome (and lol that screenshot is hilarious XD), but I can also see why people don't like it for Eirika--she only ever used swords yet Brides can't use swords at all... and it seems to have made her much more bratty, whiny, naive, etc., personally I don't really mind too much

As for characterization, again, I'm not one to be so nitpicky or be like "oh noez it's not true to the original", it's not only harder in localizations to maintain similar characterization because it's more likely you'll have new translators that aren't familiar with older characters because other translators worked on it (i.e. even if Treehouse did both FE7 and FE13, it doesn't mean the same people did it), and more importantly it's much easier and more practical to just throw lines that fit the general character role or archetype, e.g. Zephiel, Nergal, and Ashnard are all similar in that they look down on the enemy, flaunt their strength, etc...
