@ Marph I would take you up on that, but included in the deal I got is the company's design team will create cover art for me. Plus if I had you draw one I'd feel obligated to pay you something, which, being the going-broke college student I am, isn't something I want to do XD. And once it's all set I'll post some links saying where to buy it from.

@Shu Dang man, that's my favorite reply to this thread thus far. I don't know about this whole "great author" deal, but thank you for the kind words, and I sincerely thank you for the compliment.

So, any news? Name(s)? Synopsis? And what would it take/cost to get a copy direct from you?

Oh, right. I suppose I'll update this a little.

In other news, the company asked for some short (like, 3 paragraphs) synopses of my four books (remember this one is the first of a four part series) and they're pretty much in love with the idea. Not bad, considering telling my entire four book series in 12 paragraphs is HARD AS HELL and can't be that descriptive...right?

I've also written the back cover so I can include that as well, but I've gotta run to work so I'll try to do it later (if I remember).

Ah, and the title. I guess it does me little good to keep that a secret anymore. The reason I did it was because I could change it literally 24 hours before the final publication step, but eh, I think I'm okay with the title.

The series title: The Dream War
Book One: The Royal Seal. It's split into two parts; Part one: Of Legends and Holy Knights, and Part Two: Under Martial Law.

The titles for each book and parts are about 95% done too, actually, but those names aren't really important atm.

Other than that I just have to wait on them to get my materials back to me. I can start working on book two/three (the latter being almost done) if I want...but I'm a bit burnt out from writing tongue.gif.

Those are good names. Those names make me want to look at the book, even if we ignore the fact that I'm definitely buying it because I know the author.

Also, did I read your post wrong, or are you farther into book 3 than 2?

What publishing company are you using?

Yay for work cutting hours and sending me home early! >.>

Good to know those names are, well, good. Out of the four, I actually think book 1 has the worst name, but that's just me. So thanks for that.

also, no, the royal seal is not the fat water mammal, though that would be quite hilarious

And yes I'm further along in book 3 than book 2. Book 3 has 74,000 words written and will probably reach about 100k. Book 2 I haven't started.

The way the plot of my books unfolds makes it easy to separate. I already know the general scoop (in my head) of what happens in book 2 anyway, so I can theoretically finish 99% of book 3 before even starting 2.
Plus, imo, book 3 is the best one (though book 4 comes in at a close second) so I wanted to write it, heh. Though that is relative; books 3 and 4 are more war based, while 1 and 2 have more adventure and world history/backstory. But I like epic wars, so...yeah.

The back cover is in the spoiler below. I was only allowed about 150-200 words, so it's pretty vague.

Back Cover (Click Here To Hide/Show Text)

In the early ages, the world of Oniro was plagued by a frightening evil. Grotesque creatures roamed the land, wyverns filled the skies, and demonic, misshapen men plotted destruction and control. The strongest armies in existence stood no chance. In its current state, Oniro was lost.
But the appearance of seven legendary heroes, along with the nearly defeated warriors of the Holy Order, saved mankind. From that day forward, the world remained relatively peaceful for five hundred years.
However, on the continent of Dregnal, a new evil arises. The country of Entervia has been invaded by the North. While Entervia’s army marches to meet them, the barbarian clans of the South harass the citizenry, pillaging villages and killing innocents.
With the North and the South bearing down, Entervia has only one option. Sigurd, a young man from Entervia’s capital, along with his lifelong friend Euwart, is tasked with forming a small resistance group to travel to the country of Ariglioth for reinforcements.
Accompanied by Adrian, a guard captain, and Tristan, a long time friend of Euwart’s, the small force sets forward, walking a trail the common people hardly traverse. Little do they know, however, of the secrets they are about to uncover, of the mysteries long since buried beneath the soil, causing this seemingly simple task to be far more than they’d ever dreamed…

And I'm feeling nice, so....

What's this..AN EXCERPT!? A spoiler-free flashback that tells the backstory of one of my major characters, Tristan (Click Here To Hide/Show Text)

It was late, but he couldn’t sleep. His mother and father were arguing again, like they always did at night. They thought they were keeping their sons, who they both loved very much, out of it, but little did they know that their oldest tossed, turned and listened to every word, every night.
Tonight was much worse than it had ever been. His mother was crying and screaming while his father relentlessly yelled.
“Luna, time and time again I’ve caught you! You must stop this heresy!”
“No! You can’t control me, Terrowan!” she yelled back. Her voice became disturbing; it sounded like the normal voice of a woman, but was riddled with a deep, demonic undertone, as if her vocal cords were slowly becoming possessed by the Lord of Hell. . .
“I am going to master this . . . thisss power! I will be the first to use it for good; I will protect our boys, I will protect everyone! I just need. . .more. . .more power. . .”
“As the last of the Holy Warriors, I will not allow this! I shall not, cannot, and will not sit idly while my own wife studies the Forbidden Arts!”
All of a sudden, a brief flash of fire erupted in the darkness. It was over in a second, but Tristan would forever feel its burn.
Afterward, his father’s voice became more somber, and Tristan could hardly make out what he was saying.
“And my nightmares have been confirmed. . .” he said. “Not only are you falling victim to the seduction of the Forbidden Arts, you can cast it as well.”
“Can’t you ssseee, Terrowan? With this poWer, I can de—StrOy. . .”
“I see it plainly, and I have but one solution. Luna, I command you to leave my house! Your soul has already been corrupted down to the core; now the magic will consume you from within. You are beyond saving, let alone salvation!”
“Heh..heh heh heh. . .Terrowan, you would simply thRoW me oUt? YoUR beLoVeD wIfe?
“. . . It has already consumed most of your heart . . . I am sorry, Luna, my love. . .”
Another flash of light blinded the room. This time, however, it was not fire, but of pure, holy energy. It was strong enough to wake both of Tristan’s brothers up; the poor youngest child began bawling his one year old eyes out. And in another instant, his mother was gone, fleeing at the sight of his father’s Holy Magic.
Terrowan barged into his children’s room and took all of them in his arms. “Where’s Mommy?” “What happened to Mommy?” the two oldest repeatedly cried, tears streaming down their faces.
And their father could not help but shed one himself.
“Mommy’s gone,” he sniffled. “For a long, long time.”

Price I'm not sure. I'll know a bit more when the official length of the book is released. The company will let me know of the price to charge, so I'll probably knock it down a bit lower if you buy it direct from me.

Though I'll guess paperbacks would be somewhere between $10-15 and hardcover over $20. E-books I have no damn clue. I could be wrong, though.

And about the romance....you'll see tongue.gif if you buy it

Of course if you buy it through me I'll do a special mention. "Super Lurk" sounds like a good one to me.

I like what I see from that excerpt. I just keep seeing more and more reasons to buy this book!

Certainly more fantasy than mine. which by the way has been updated

I don't think I could skip the order I write these in. The fact that I have a prequel planned is already problematic enough, given that Smyx literally is just happening as I write. I have no idea who he is and he wasn't even supposed to happen. He was just there all of a sudden. Skipping a whole book? Yikes.

Awesome. Thanks! Not one of my better scenes, but it does make a decent enough excerpt, I guess.

Preludes are always tough. I'm going through a similar thing now; I'll have to update book 3 [HEAVILY] because I've done some different things in book 1 than originally anticipated. Yes, I also started book 3 before starting book 1

I've had a couple characters just "happen" as I write as well, and so far, they've all contributed majorly to the overall story (not in this one though; book 3 mainly).

Which is why a synopsis is hard....picking only key events? Almost every event/subplot is linked to the main story in some way!

And god damn it guys, you're making me want to write again. I told myself I'd take a nice, long break, too >.>

Well, I'd imagine the best scenes would require the reader to know the characters. That one makes sense all on its own.

you could always kill/destroy/whatever problem characters/events/whatever in book 2 This may end up being my plan, though...

What I DO know about my one current accidental character makes him super important. you'd know more if you read the most recent update to my story

Yeah. I guess it'd be easiest to either write a REALLY short one or a long one. Seems difficult.

WRITE. DOOOO IIIITTT. Better yet, send me those creative juices. I want to write, but I'm not feeling super inspired right now...

True that. I kinda picked it randomly but your reasoning sounds better than mine XD

Unfortunately, book 2 has some of the most important subplot events and characters in the series, so it cannot be skipped.

Believe me...I've thought long and hard about how I could go about terminating book 2 altogether, but alas, I cannot. It wouldn't make sense to throw it at the end of book 1, and book 3 is too long as it is.

Sucky part is book 2 is the most original and colorful aspect of the series. My worry is that it won't last long enough to hit that magical "50,000 words oh-hey-it's-a-novel-not-a-novella-or-anything-below stage. But I guess I should take my own advice and not worry about that for now, huh?

But maybe I'll get at least the first chapter started tonight.

As for creative juices, I'll telepathically send my hyperactive imaginative thoughts your way. And damn, I've derailed my own topic.

Oh, you can have them, just things that aren't in book 3 get terminated. I'm afraid that my "Book 2" will suffer from too many characters dieing.

Alternatively: write the books in the correct order.

Minor updates here, and some important info added to the first post:

In the meantime I'm working on getting another excerpt up. And by working, I mean finding a decent one that's spoiler-free.

I'm also starting work on the second book, which will likely not be finished until my winter break (end of December to end of January) and of which there will be no excerpts until the publishing process begins...again.

The four books work similarly to LOTR; each book is just a continuation of the same adventure. So if I put up excerpts from any other books, you all will be spoiled on what happens in book one. Which is bad.

Also, about a week or so until I get my copy edited manuscript back. I hope they don't tear it up too badly :x

Anyway, yeah. That's what's going on as of now.

All the ideas are in my head. I just need to get them on paper and go balls to the wall. Book one didn't take me that long (I wrote it during my school breaks in a combined total of maybe 2.5 months). I'm not sure how much I'll be able to get done September-December though, so we'll see how that works out.
