And I will always talk about them to my friends, and anyone else who decides to listen to me ramble on and on in my old age(Were looking at the age of 70 or so) about how Goku should be dead for good, since they never really killed him off, but instead made him into a dragon riding god............Oh wait......Still rambling....

Oh that comparison was already tried. Anyway, as a nonwatcher I'll say its realistically no big deal to anyone who decently knows you, and probably not that surprising. I wouldn't start off an interview conversation with "Hey did you see the latest episode of *insert anime*" but I wouldn't start it off "Hey did you see the latest episode of South Park" either, unless I had some reason to believe the person interviewing me liked South Park.

Let's make some things clear. I never said all or even a majority of japanese people watch anime, so no, I was not stereotyping. Anime comes from Japan, and clearly is more popular there than anywhere else in the world.

What age is it acceptable to watch anime? Hmm any age. I started watching anime around 10-11 (DBZ, pokemon, stuff like that) and back in the day EVERYONE at school was like OMG GOKU IS AWESOME DBZ IS THE BEST EVAR!! And pokemon was still ok to be into XD. Bout the time I got into high school was when I started denying liking pokemon cuz everyone was into different stuffz >w>;;

Point of correction - It's not ad hominem. Ad hominem exists iff (sic) the point is being raised as a counter to your argument. "I now see why you were banned from the last forum, therefore your point is wrong" is ad hominem, "I now see why you were banned from your last forum" is plainly verbal abuse and attacking someone. It's the same way that "You're not a medical professional, so I'll ask one for medical advice" is ad hominem whereas "You suck!" isn't.
As for the topic itself, as long as you're a well rounded and healthy individual, it shouldn't matter. I admit, I'm a casual watcher, but claiming that stereotypes will ruin it is a very transferable argument. You like anime? You could get lumped with lolita complex and weird Japanese things. Games? Have fun being associated with 12 year old griefers or the "has no life" concept (David Wong actually writes a great article on Cracked.com on this subject). Sports? Jocks. Almost every hobby has an unpleasant stereotype and, it's likely that you'll be placed with one if you answer anything (or ever nothing) to your hobby. Disagreement from a reasonable sized amount of the population will exist for most non-criminal activities, making it socially unacceptable to a considerable degree.
To be fair though, I also don't move in modern circles of anime. I stick to my '80s/'90s shows and rarely deviate. From what I can tell, this could easily have a different answer given the stereotype newer shows may have.

FFFF misread. Oh well. I still say any age. If someone doesn't like what you wanna watch, well thats THEIR problem. A lot of ppl HATE me for what I like, and it doesn't bother me. So if some people can't accept that you watch anime, well they can just deal.

Um....No, Goku=Suckz(My opinion). Did you know that the actual main character of the DBZ series was always supposed to be Gohan, not Goku. After dying the second time, Goku wasn't going to make a comeback, and Gohan was going to be the main character, win all the fights, but there was such a puplic outcry when that info slipped out that....Low and behold, Goku came back, again.....
As for Pokemon, Who can't name the first 150 by heart? After that, it all kinda went down the drain(In what world does a Pikachu learn a steel move that can kill rock and ground types?)
