Hmm this really doesn't make sense to me, how does a M or an N (or both for that matter) change the sound "ah" to "o" I mean is there another example?
Okay so maybe frend was going too far, (I'd pronounce parent pear-rent) but in the manga example it uses two syllables either way.
Since manga is a foreign word, wouldn't it have been adopted as Monga is the US if it was really pronounced with an "O"?

Anime nerds are wapanese. They like being as close to "Japanese" as they can get so they can pretend they are. So I don't know. I would pronounce mahn as mon. Once again, the way Jamaicans say man.

I love Japan and I am learning Japanese, but I discovered manga by accident and when I first pronounced it I said Manga so saying it that way seems more natural.
