Ryoku, don't use iaza as an image host, only use it to edit images online (I mainly use it for quick transparency). then rehost onto imageshack or photobucket or something.

when u do that i will comment more on your Yoshi (for your first full custom it looks quite good)

A few Slight edits, including making him skinnier, and making the hidden arm visible

Also took out the white on the Skin, so a Transparecy would work now. (I't really early and I don't feel like making the IMG Trans.)

Ryoku, dude. Congratulations! Like I said in the shoutbox, takes true guts to go all the way into a custom work, considering you have less experience to lean on than many others when they started off, so you have to be more empirical, and to top it off all this work to contribute to someone else's project.

So kudos to you. smile.gif And also, that is a great start if you ask me, based on what I have seen some people with more experience made more mistakes than you did when they were starting off themselves. cool.gif

And now, off to the mug... About this last insertion, well... It was JPG'd, so it is hard to judge. >___> But considering that it has still (at least almost) the same palette as your other approach, and also that perhaps you could not have a copy of it on your HD for any reason at all, I took the liberty of extracting the palette from your other one, and framing it.

user posted image

It seems slightly different after the indexing, but should do for now. X_X And what I see is... The nose is round. :3 Congratulations, that is a rather good approach on the head, I have to admit it. ^__^ The body may seem small in comparison, though, but that could be me, I am judging without a reference here. ^__^'

So I would say, focus on the body... Maybe keeping the same pattern of other FE mugs, he could go just the way to his shoulders. At least in older games he had a rather long neck, so you could do that. Or you could just ignore my comments, and keep on working on that body too, it might turn out ok in the end. smile.gif

Again, nice attempt anyway, and also one that proves that, with the right amount of training, you would have a good future in the world of spriting. wink.gif

EDIT: Ok, homework is done.

Earfix, alongside with a slightly crazier tail. Something like, 10-12 pixels different from what you have up there, still a matter of honor. XD

The Princess Peach looks good, although I have a couple issues with the line under her mouth... It looks too dark and is too long in my opinion. If it was a pixel shorter and didn't get so dark I think it would look much better.

Fixed. Also, in FE7 colors. Just use the original palette if you wanted FE8 saturation.

The Princess Peach portrait is now officially accepted.

Also I made minor edits on all three current portraits:

user posted imageuser posted imageuser posted image

Both DK and Peach were simply palette edits, DK's is changed to the style of my Gorilla Gadek SG portraits (mostly FE7 colors with FE8 borders and white colors), Peach's was mainly to make all the colors multiples of 8 (again, I'm obsessive over that.) Peach's borders were already pretty much the FE8 colors, so it wasn't a big adjustment changing it to the same style as the other two.

The edits on Diddy are also mainly in the palette, however I also did some minor touch-ups on his right hand.

You shouldn't worry too much about the divisibility, BTW, unless you do your insertions without FEditor. The FEditor does change them automatically anyways. XP

And glad to see the speed this project is managing to get such a good amount of awesome portraits. smile.gif

why do you have fe7 colors with FE8 outlines? that looks messy.

I just like the outlines noticeably dark. Maybe it doesn't look as good, but that's just how I do it usually. Perhaps I'll change the outlines to FE7 if enough people don't like it, but in terms of the rest of the colors, I am definitely using FE7 colors.

Also, I do know FEditor will automatically change them, because it can't possibly insert the colors otherwise. The thing is, I'm a control freak in terms of colors, and it won't always turn out exactly how I'd change it to when the program does it. Same with palette order, it can make the palette automatically, but I prefer to arrange it in the upper right corner of the image so it will be the exact order I want it to be.

I am the same regarding paleter order, specially due to a bug from the GBA rom which makes it easy to tell bad palettes from good ones. XP

Also, the real problem of using the FE8 border in FE7 mugs is, in my point of view, the fact that we won't be able to use the border as a part of the mug anymore, it will be too strong in compharison. The FE8 border turns into something close to the 0 0 0 black in the actual GBA screen, which looks off next to pastel colors. Personal oppinion. smile.gif

I can do a Toadsworth, I'd just take a day or two wink.gif
I'll try to stick to FE7 colors with him, unlike my other portraits XP

If you train your already good sense of proportion and get a better sense of shading and coloring... ...you really have great odds of being the next great customer around this forums and even FEND, congrats. :3

Since so far it seems most of you prefer using straight FE7 colors to using FE8 borders with FE7 colors, I decided to change the borders to FE7 borders. I couldn't be buggered to re-upload to Photobucket, but the changes are reflected on the sheet with all the current portraits, since it's on Dropbox.

Yoshi is really rough. It needs to be smoothened out quite a bit. It's a good start though.

Glad to hear you'll be making the Tiny portrait soon. ^.^

Anywho:

Just a simple concept battle sprite and might not even be how the final battle sprite looks. I'm still trying to decide if I want this sort of style (edit of Nintendo platformer style sprites like Super Mario World and stuff like that) or a more FE style battle sprite.

If I go with this style for the battle sprites, they would be quicker for anyone to make since they'd for the most part be sprite edits or based off a familiar style for the characters being used in the hack. I don't know how everyone feels about this idea though, so I'd like to know what everyone would prefer.

Base portrait for Dixie Kong.

Others feel free to touch it up to look more along the lines of the styling of the current Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong portraits, but please don't mess with the color palette, as I like the colors I chose for her.

The older Diddy Kong battle sprite looks beast.

I'm almost sure you've heard of pillow shading. There's a lot of it on Dixie Kong. It's a common thing to say but, most people pillow shade when they do custom sprites, or at least when they first start to do it. That includes me... D:
