Amusing, however while I agree with the concept of media manipulation, what about those who do not watch the news? I know a good few people (including myself) who are more concerned with what dinner is then what country will be invaded and destroyed next.
I mean honestly I watch it on occassion and alot of it is "Police are doing *something* to make the community a better place"...... well they haven't ever been useful as far as I've seen.

Then obviously it wouldn't matter if you don't watch it, no?

People who don't watch the news won't care what it covers.

Not caring about it does not mean one will not be affected by it, Using Michael Jackson as an example, an individual may not care about the news, but may care that MJ died due to being a fan. However the individual did not watch the news, how did he find out?
Through others who watch the news, if you go to music retailers alot of them are plastering their shelves with MJ goods. In my case these "good" are an eyesore, I may not care for the news (though I do watch it occassionaly that's disregarded in this example) I am still affected by the media blowing one mans death out of proportion.
The example crosses over into commercial manipulation, however it wouldn't be as successful without the "news"

In that sense, you are. I forget that people talk about it sometimes.

Better then me >_> I have people telling me how great the police force are and how they did *Their job once* on the news last night. Some idiots decide to quote shows like CSI:(Random American City) as reference to how great and cool police are, and yes, I'm talking about people in their late teens or early 20's.
To make the matter worse I live on the other side of the world to the US, so even if it wasn't pure fiction it's irrelevant anyway.

That's your problem. The US exists. Take care of that.
This has been, the FES news update.
Did you know, America has insulted your country? Will you take that?

lol. In Canada we got the seal hunt. Pictures from like, twenty years ago being used to make people think it's inhumane. Like, seriously people, grow up.
The best part was when Paul McCartney came down to bitch about it, and Danny Williams, the premier of the province that has the seal hunt, confronted him on a talk show and just owned the hell out of him.
