Characters you like, that everyone else hates...

My first would be Serra. Now, personality-wise, I really don't like most FE Clerics, as they are devout servants of whatever god they serve, and/or they are selfless humanitarians or philanthropists, well-loved by everyone, the latter of which is one of my less favorite archetypes (the only character I can think of that more-or-less falls under this archetype, whom I actually like is Adol Christen from the Ys games, but kicking as much ass as he does, I find it really easy to just overlook that), as I just see it as a Mary-Sueish quality, and I think that realistically, everyone has some measure of selfishness, though I'm really only speaking from my own perspective.
Anyway, compared to them, Serra sort of stands out, being virtually the opposite of your usual Fire Emblem Cleric character, and while most people (in and out of the game) dislike her personality, I actually find it a little endearing, making her my favorite Cleric in the whole series.
EDIT: I forgot about Malicia, but I'm really more indifferent to her.
In a similar case to Serra, a lot of people don't seem to like Maribelle, and while it's easy to see why (and, personally, personality-wise, while there are many other character in Awakening I like more, I at least don't hate her), I think she's a fair subversion to your typical snobby aristocrat archetype, in the sense that in a few of her supports, she's willing to try to fit in among her "lowborn" allies. Also, among the first-generation characters, her class and skill selection is probably second only to Cordelia, and I'm willing to overlook a lot of things if a character kicks ass or is otherwise useful.
Lastly, Amelia. A lot of people say she's useless and stuff, but I really don't see why. I mean, sure, she's tough to recruit and train, but once I got past that, she's been my best unit on more than one playthrough, if I promote her to Knight, then General (granted, maybe I was just lucky, though I seemed to get screwed on Ross's level-ups...), where she doubles almost everything, dealing heavy damage on each individual attack, and still having, while somewhat low for a General, acceptable Defense, though that's considering she doesn't dodge the attack, which she seems to do quite often, considering the class.

I believe in judgment of humans through their judgment of fiction, for nothing else tells better of their disposition freed from apprehension.

Micaiah, I guess. First one that came to mind since i'm current playing Radiant Dawn again. I don't particularly like her but she's still one of the more interesting characters in RD(which is not hard to do.) I have this tendency to take every single mary sue accusation with a grain of salt though. |
Mary sue is like now a term for characters that are important but you don't like them. Seriously she ain't even a mary sue, she has a shit ton of flaws.

Micaiah isn't a Mary Sue, but contains traits consistent with that of a Mary Sue (which people often confuse): half-human, "healing hands" in a world where this isn't typical, relatively unique magic access, hidden royalty...and the list goes on.
I actually quite like her for this reason: she's a completely deconstructed Mary Sue. While she holds the temperament and traits of one, she has been written to showcase exactly all the flaws of being one. Bound, yes, but horrifying tactics and genocide.
On the same topic...:
- Wendy. Screw you, I'm using a pink knight.
- Geoffrey. Personality of a wood board, but man was he useful and amazing in FE9 because Paragon. Actually, let's just say Paragon as a whole makes people generally awesome. You have to be giftedly bad (Astrid in Radiant Dawn) to screw it up.
- Lucia. Personal bias to that hair colour and Swordsmaster class. And so many +1s during her level ups (which felt awesome until it became the norm in FE games)...Radiant Dawn also gives me a nice fanservice package in the form of that short hair.

As one might be able to tell, I'm a member of the Lucia fan club.
I guess you could say Barst as another unit, but most people don't really hate him, they just completely forget he exists.
I actually liked Roy! Good unit but barred from absolutely taking over my recent playthroughs by his late promotion.
If you train your already good sense of proportion and get a better sense of shading and coloring... ...you really have great odds of being the next great customer around this forums and even FEND, congrats. :3

On the flipside of this topic, I absolutely HATE Marth, especially in super smash bros. Don't have a specific reason for it, but Marth is just so nooooob.

Gosh, that's a little disheartening, but if the Avatar (from either game that has one) really is that unpopular, then yeah, s/he is definitely a character I'd put on here, above all others. S/he really made his/her games feel special in the sense that since the player created him/her, s/he felt especially fun to use, and even though New Mystery of the Emblem's Avatar didn't have much in the way of story significance, s/he was still a pleasure to see in battle, cutscenes, and the like, because s/he is your character! Seriously, I just can't comprehend why people are against this...

I'm personally partial to PoR Marcia in that department, but it's a good thing that happened to Lucia in RD, because Marcia made the mistake of letting her hair grow out

Because it's a shitty character in a somewhat character driven game. But I'm not gonna go into an Avatar rant here.
Echoing others I actually like Micaiah. And I also like Sothe.

Also there seems to be some Pelleas haters because of how late he comes and is underleveled and stuff, but I found that the effort pays off if you guard him enough. He's not really as ugh to train as the usual Est type of character. I do wonder just why the hell he sat out in the earlier chapters when he had those stats going for him, though. (Izuka too I guess lol, being third tier)

On the flip side, I don't like Tharja nearly as much as everyone else seems to. Her support with the Avatar and Nowi aside, she doesn't do much to redeem herself.
