I like FE8's features more tbh. The lack of postgame anything on FE7 makes my vote go to FE8 for the better game.
I believe in judgment of humans through their judgment of fiction, for nothing else tells better of their disposition freed from apprehension.

It just had better features. Now, it's debatable about having a tactician, but, I like the class splitting and I still play the Tower of Valni when I'm bored. Also, most people hate the OW map, but I love it. Out of weapons after the game is over? No sweat! Need more vulneraries before you enter a chapter, covered.
Now, FE7's plot felt deeper/better, but that doesn't change my opinion. Also, route split FTW.
Got Pokemon X/Y or OR/AS? Battle me! Or trade with me... Trading is cool too.

I liked that too
it wasn't really complex enough though (you couldn't even visit most shops in earlier chapters iirc)

I forgot to mention something. The OW map added the Skirmishes, allowing you to fight monsters not only on the tower and ruins, but on maps you've played before. I like that allot.

Sacred Stones. I recently went back and played both 7 and 8 quite a bit in preparation for Awakening's release, and I developed a newfound appreciation for Fire Emblem 8. Before then, I just kind of thought 8 was meh and I'd probably have given it to Blazing Sword in this discussion.
But now, I've come to realize that Sacred Stones actually has the edge. While I don't personally believe the character cast as a whole is more or less interesting than 7's, 8 has a cleaner graphical style, and a plot that's just as solid as it's predecessor. What's more, the split promotion tree is a feature that I've always believed should have been a staple.
And in my opinion, FE8 had the better lords. Lyn was never interesting to me past her nomadic roots, and Eliwood is just kind of a lamer version of Roy (Roy was calm, cool, collected, and a pimp. Eliwood was lordling-y and not very badass.) Hector was neat, but the other two kind of drag FE7's "Cool Lord Score" down. The twins in Sacred Stones were always more useful to me than the FE7 lords (excluding Hector) and really gave the impression that they were holding it together brilliantly in spite of their situation.
But I still do like FE7.

It's close, though. FE7 provided a great sense of adventure and Depth because it's starts so small, and it grows and grows in drama until you end up at the final battle. It really made me feel like I wanted to beat the bosses. I love that.
FE8 isn't a very deep game to me and I can see plenty of signs of the development being rushed, but the actual gameplay is so much better than FE7's in my opinion and I love the playable characters.
Gameplay is above everything else for me, but FE7 still deserves an honorable mention for what it does. I'm sure other people appreciate those other aspects more than I do.

Fine more details. FE7 feels like a much bigger game from the world map; in comparison to FE8's, it seems massive. I also really like the way FE7 makes you guard the convoy, as opposed to a supply cart that magically hovers over your main lord. All in all, however, the post-game content and the promotion branching sealed the deal on FE8 for me.
