http://www.cbsnews.c...ede-from-union/

So this happened today. I've heard of someone being butthurt over Obama winning again but jesus christ are we really gonna try this again? Didn't we learn the first time we tried this? How immature do all these people have to be to go "I HATE OBAMA SO MUCH THAT I DON'T WANT MY STATE TO BE IN THE UNION!! HURR!!"

Anyway a lot of people think this means nothing. The petitions HAVE to be reviewed by congress if they hit the signature requirement, but that doesn't mean they have to approve them. But you never know, in this country, with how hotly people hate our President, we may look at a full scale rebellion if the government doesn't let the states secede like they want. Its a scary thing for me because I'm a reservist and if a new civil war breaks loose, guess who's being called back to service? Maybe I'm over thinking it, and over fearing it. Its still a big deal to me though. I mean news of has surely reached the rest of the world right now, and I think we all know how hard they must be laughing at our immaturity and stupidity right now. Anyway how many of you think this is a legitimate concern?

It's not a concern at all; there's always some sort of secession talks every few years. Nothing's going to change from it.

Down here many people have wanted to secede since long before Obama. The political ideas and concerns are just so different between the Northern and Southern states that they want to separate so that we can flourish. Let's face it someone from New York is going to have completely different ideology than someone who is from Oklahoma or California. This isn't everyone in the south of course, some want to stay a part of the U.S. Some want to secede for legit reasons but the sudden influx in those supporting secession is definitely people just over reacting to Obama winning the election. It's really quite stupid and I'm getting tired of all the "Obama won! America is doomed!" talk. It's irrational and sickening.

I live in Texas, so I find this hilarious. President Andrew Johnson made it so no one can legally secede from the Union. Not to mention that we would be economically coerced back into the U.S. anyway. I don't like Obama, but this is ridiculous. All roads lead to lols and ridicule. Somedays even I wish my state didn't have so many ultra conservative nut jobs.

Oh so more people are SAYING they are going to secede again?
This is gonna turn out well.
Every single time a president gets elected you have some douches who are going to want to secede.
Hey everyone! If you're a KH or FF fan, please come to Castle Oblivion to discuss things about them!

Its a bit late now since the forum is practically dead. I almost keep this sig PURELY for sentimental value xD

Eh, let them whine. In the end it won't work and they'll just look stupid, assuming it somehow works (which it won't).

Finally. Maybe now things will change.

I honestly hope they secede. It would be hilarious to see the states wither and die.

Someone else said, but I agree with, we should just choose a state to let secede. A single state. All the idiots will move there, and then we can just bomb it. Boom, problem solved.

Edit: Best quote of that news article is "Asked about Morrison's newsletter comments, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that Batman sighed and replied, "Wow...OK, well, I guess I need to start taking a look at his newsletters." "

It is not really hate. It is just consequences. Your state is one of many acting stupid, it is going to be called out for it. This is the way life works.

Think of it this way. It is the same as someone saying "9/11 was deserved, no flaming!" This is not a case of blaming the victim.

And technically only one person mentioned Texas specifically. Everyone else was talking about the 22 states in general.

Only like .1% of Texans have actually signed that petition, anyways. If 1/1000 people wants to secede, I feel like the State actually won't secede.

Here is a reply to the story. I did not bother to verify the statistics, so take it as you will. Where he says 50 state I think he means 20.

venusvegasvada says:
The latest Tea Party stunt of filing online petitions with states to leave the Union once again shows that selfish Tea Partiers just can't do basic math.

Let's review!
If each of the 50 state had 25,000 people sign up, that's 500k people.

There are 311,686,189 people in the US.

As a percentage, 500k out of over 311 million is just a measly 1/10 of 1 percent (0.16%).

That's not that many people. As a matter of fact, there are far more people in the US with mental disorders than are part of this tea party stunt.

Percentages of the US Population with mental disorders:

Mood Disorder: 9.5% of the Pop. over 18 years old.
Major Depressive Disorder: 6.7% of the Pop. over 18 years old.
Dysthymic Disorder: 1.5% of the Pop. over 18 years old.
Schizophrenia: 1.1% of the Pop. over 18 years old.
Anxiety Disorders: 18.1% of the Pop. over 18 years old.
Panic Disorders: 2.7% of the Pop. over 18 years old.
OCD: 1.0% of the Pop. over 18 years old.
PTSD: 3.5% of the Pop. over 18 years old.
Social Phobia: 6.8% of the Pop. over 18 years old.
Agoraphobia: 0.8% of the Pop. over 18 years old.
ADHD: 4.1% of the Pop. over 18 years old.

Tea Partiers/leave the US: 0.16% of the Pop. over 18 years old.

So, it's pretty easy to see that the Average person is far more apt to suffer from a mental illness, than to want to be part of the Tea Party that wants to leave the US.

The Good news is under Obamacare, they can get the help they need as pre-existing conditions are covered.

It's not really right to judge an entire state by a very small portion of it's population misbehaving, Kensai. And of course the state won't secede. It was a civilian petition, the state government didn't file it. So therefore they won't act upon it, even if for some weird (I assume joking) reason the national government decided to accept it.
