Looking forward to lighting this ****ing book on fire so Cristopher Paolini can **** off back down the plagiarising hole he came from. |
Care to expound on this thought? It doesn't seem to me he could have plagiarized.

Also without that his writing style is extremely boring as well as his flat characters, frequent inconsistencies, lack of any real attempt at originality, lack of any real driving plot along with highly pretentious word-usage and a horrendous abuse of purple prose.
Paolini let the story run away from him as well and created whole passages or chapters in Brisingr that add **** all to the plot, it's because of his overword usage and lack of a proper plot besides the heros journey that forced him to change it from a trilogy to a quadrilogy

Yeeeeees!! Can't wait for this book. Also can't wait for Roran to become a best at magic and get paired with the green dragon, IMO. |
*beast*. not best. I apologize for poor grammer check.

Fine, "taken inspiration from" if you will, the first book is essentially Star Wars set in Middle Earth Also without that his writing style is extremely boring as well as his flat characters, frequent inconsistencies, lack of any real attempt at originality, lack of any real driving plot along with highly pretentious word-usage and a horrendous abuse of purple prose. i largely agree with alot of what said. while i do find the series entertaining, its not nearly as good as it could have been. i dont think it was planned out all that well. also the politics part seems really forced. and the characters are one demesional.

Shakespeare's works, Bible, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings.
In most new epics, you're going to get some people to claim it's a copy of one of the above...
In terms of hatred and seemingly organized hatedoms, I've never seen something quite as bad as this...except maybe Rebecca Black and Twilight. Never even read the books, but it seems you have to cut the author some slack (like the other examples, as Black is young and Twilight isn't even designed for the age (and frequently, gender) of its haters). The first book was written when he was frakin' 15 years old. Of course it's going to be a cliche storm and highly derived from others' works. You even go back and read your 15 year old self's works? They're a mess too.

Yeah.Paolini worked his butt off on this book, only to have movie producers butcher the movie >.< And i was unaware of the fact that Star Wars had Dragons in it... |
There are. Just invisible, non-existant dragons.

My point in the sentence was that somebody is going to claim an epic is a plagiarism of some other, older piece. Almost never have I seen a story like that go without SOMEBODY complaining.

Which is why I don't understand it's popularity, the series itself is a mess

Is mine a mess? (Genuine question)
Anyways, I'm not super picky about my reading, so anything with enough length to engage me for a while is good for me.
Also, that movie was awful. How did they even plan on making more? They completely changed the ending.

No fataing clue. Never read your stuff. Generally though, if you're aware you're using cliches, you'll use them less liberally.

TVtropes describes it as the "dancing bear effect": it doesn't matter how bad the bear dances, it just matters than the bear is dancing period.

That dancing bear effect thing sounds like how I am about reading. If the bear dances, that's good enough, and the longer it dances, the better. Unless it's absolutely abysmal. There aren't many books I've failed to like, though.
