Annoying and pointless on every page, no? The option exists to only have it display on index view, I think it's worth looking into.

Shoutbox =/= Chatroom, very different purposes. Though, were Blazer to want a chatroom, I can direct him to plenty that work well.

I think it's good on every page, and quite useful. I have the worst dial up, and yet it's best this way. If someone doesn't like it, then create the option to have it only on the index for them, but leave it the way it is best already.

You could just leave one tab open with the index, that will barely slow your connection down at all.

I mean, it not displaying on every page would help dial-up users browse the forum in the first place. And this being a forum primarily and not a shoutbox, well, I'm sure you see where I'm going with this, I'll leave it to Blazer.

No one has complained about it except you, and every regular member has shouted. And everyone chats there, all the time. They like it. We need to do what the members like, not whatever the staff damn well wants to. BTW, I think a poll would be a better choice for this thread.

Because this is the way we like it. And your dial up assumption is wrong. It is already loaded from your first page, and is the first thing to load, but the cookies have it done already. I have the slowest dial-up. I know how it works.

That is strange, I have browsed FES from dial-up before, but I suppose the difference in computers could easily explain that away.

I'd enjoy the collapse thing so as long as once it collapses it will stay collapsed even if I visit another page and then come back; that is, the shoutbox stays collapsed based on the member's preferences. Of course, I'm not sure how to do this, but Tino is pretty nifty at this stuff so if he could do it I'm sure it'd be worth doing it.

Unfortunately our shoutbox is significantly active (like, it gets crazy sometimes). Then again, having the shoutbox on every page doesn't seem too professional or anything either. It can also prove bothersome to some people as well. Considering I'm almost at a stalemate at making a decision, I'd look forward to having an efficient collapse option on the shoutbox.

On a side note, we do have a chatbox, it's just not advertised or used a ton.

I think a collapsable shoutbox would be good. More customization.

Anyways, Blazer, I know one exists for this version that is collapsible, I'll find it (if it's still out there, everything for this is pretty hard to find due to the age) and send it to you when I do, or Tino can just make one.

On the other hand, the categories already have such things, so maybe I could just use a similar code to replicate the effect...
