What do you guys name your main characters?
The default name?

Or something else?
I always seem to name my guy Crono, as in the main character in Chrono Trigger.

Usually Bobryk, but I sometimes go with Nick (my name) just in case Bobryk is too long.

I chose Atsura way back then cuz I thought I was cool lol. Now he's the name I use at every opportunity, even for my hack. lol games don't feel right without Atsura being the main character

Akeiron, Hans, Kaito or Keriam if I don't use the default name.
I started with "Hans" after playing for the first time Golden Sun 1 (In the Spanish version, Isaac is called Hans).
Then I went with Kaito when in Pokemon Ruby/Emerald I simply went with the default name (which in pokemon saga seems to be a random name) and Kaito appeared. Had a nice ring to it.
Then, I got a liking for Ks and Rs and final Ns or Ms, so I made up names that had, at least, Ks and Rs. Akeiron and Keriam are the ones that I liked the most from the very strange list (if the list were to be said out loud, I bet that some kinda demon would appear behind me and ask why did I call him. I'd use the chance to destroy the world... or have an ice cream, depending on my mood).
But Unless I'm forced to do otherwise, I usually go for the Default Name.
If I'm forced, then:
If the character's blond and/or the game doesn't remind me IN ANY WAY AT ALL of Japan, then Hans.
If he uses a long-range weapon, then Keriam.
For everyone else, Kaito or Akeiron depending on the face. If lastname is required, then I use both, Akeiron as my last name and Kaito as my first name.
An exception: I was inspired and in "SMT: Devil Survivor" for DS, I named the main character "Kaijin". Dunno why, just as soon as I saw his face, the name popped up in my mind. Plus, I needed also a Nickname for the character, not just his real name, and with "Kaijin", I could make the Nickname be "Kay", making that part a lot easier.

Depends on the game. Like, in FF7 I wouldn't because the characters are so prolific. In more obscure games, I will pick my own names.
TBH, If I could change the names of Fire Emblem characters without hacking, then I'd do that.

Normally I use my own name, and friends. Or "Fitz" being that my last name is Fitzpatrick and it being my nickname.
However, in games like FF, I do use the generic names.
So, basically....it depends on the game you are playing.

Almost always without fail "Charon", with the exception of Pokemon, where I name my character different every time to keep track of my trainers.

Maybe it's because I don't feel like being too creative and just want to play the game instead.

what if your playing one of the Civillization games? name all your cites Tino? or make it some variation like Tinoville, Tino Town, Tino City, New Tino, or San Tino?

Like... BUTTS Castle in SIII. Ah, good times. Much better than "Orange Castle".

In SV I named my character Chicken McNugget.

I named Link "F****r" in Minish Cap, and "Dummy" in Phantom Hourglass. Minish Cap was awesome, 'cuz the first line of the entire game is "F****r! F****r, wake up!"
My Disgaea 1 team had some mighty colorful names, among them "K*nt" and "Phallus." They worked really well as a team.
Disgaea 2, I'm being a little more family-friendly. Most of their names are related to their jobs.
Hm, now that I think about it, my PKMN Platinum trainer was named Dummy, also.
